He's one of those rare teachers where you feel privileged to be taught by, and want to excel, not only for your own benefit, but as a thank you for all the effort he's put in.
Sounds incredibly cheesy, but it's 100% true.
Far too many teacher take their role as a job, which it isn't.

Hopefully we all have teachers that make us feel this way (and to make me sound not like an idiot)!

Hey Kesh, just out of interest, what do you mean by that? ^^^ If they shouldn't take their role as a job, what should they take it as?
And don't worry, you don't sound like an idiot at all, I know what you mean  :P

Teaching isn't merely a job, it's a responsibility and a service, you shouldn't teach because you just want to do it for the money, you should teach because you care about your students and the education of society...etc.

Too tired to expand, but yeah, I'll say a little more tomorrow morning :)

I agree. The best teachers I have had have been mentors and role models to me as well, ( namely, my lit teacher). You can definitely tell the difference between the teachers who truly care for their students and the ones who simply turn up for their day job (like my maths teacher this year, who played on his iphone in class. =/)

So what are we all thinking of orientation, our new subjects, classes and teachers? :)

Yeah, as I've said, quite good. I think Biology is already my favourite subject! Haha. :P

Clearly you just haven't done enough chemistry classes to have a realistic perception of how awesome it is :P

Same here.
The best teachers are the ones that are always willing to help, the ones that tailor their advice in whatever subject they teach to your understanding of the question.
They're the ones that make you want to be a teacher yourself because of the help they give you, the inspiration and the motivation they make you feel and the fact that they can just brighten your day 'cause you get to listen to their advice and even the kids who usually slack off pay attention.
On the other hand those teachers what don't care make my blood boil!!!! Chem teacher this year: tells us to read textbooks which takes 5 mins of the lesson and then WALKS OUT of the room, telling us to do the questions. GRRRR On my report she told me to ask more questions, but how can I when she's not there 9/10ths of the time? Just thinking about bad teachers puts me in a bad mood :(

LOL. You really care about teachers! My year 11 chem teacher LITERALLY didn't know how to teach. When we asked her questions she would avoid it and talk about something else. The power points she devised for "learning" were copy-paste diagrams from our textbooks which we already had in front of us. When explaining stuff she would read directly from the powerpoint, then when none of us understood it, she would either a) skip the slide or b) explain that she is more of a biology teacher than a chemistry teacher. She would always demand homework from everyone and would take almost 6 months to correct it. She had a monotonous voice. She would complain at how bad our school is in comparison to Essendon Grammar, where her children go. She mistaked me for my lankan best friend, so when I never came to class, I would always be marked present. In year 11 I regarded Chem as a gossip/bitch session (because we had a brilliant class where we all got along with each other) and yet I topped the class that year. I worked at home and alongside a really brilliant tutor, and everything worked out.

This is how I feel for Methods and Specialist. My teacher is simply amazing. Even for my other subjects, my teachers aren't bad. However, I think I'll invest in an English tutor next year to ensure the best chance of success. Doing well in English is particularly important for students who have completed all three maths subjects.

I'm doing all three in one year! Doing just two is too mainstream. :P

You do realise that only 2 math subjects will be in your top four, right?

Yeah I know, I'm thinking of dropping one, but there's no other subject that interests me in that block at my school.

Looking at your aims, Methods and Spesh will be in your top four because of their scaling. To get a 42 in Further is actually quite difficult, and it will probs scale down to a 38. I don't know, if I were you I would be re-thinking Further.

The people above said it perfectly to be honest, nothing I can add. :)

To be honest, it is rarely a smart choice to do Further instead of Spesh, if you are capable of doing Spesh. Like I have said time and time again, if you're a capable Spesh student, you should be able to score mid 30s, which will scale beyond 45. With Further, even if you're one of the best, you won't be guaranteed a 45+ study score, and even if you are, it will scale down. So the crux of the issue is, with the increased Spesh scaling, it is almost always more beneficial to do Spesh if you're good at maths as opposed to Further.
