@ Year 11 cohort:
Do you guys feel sort of "OCD" with all this talk of ATAR scores and study scores at the moment? Today I got a letter in the mail that was commending the new Dux for 2012 - it had all her subjects and their respective SS and her ATAR and stuff.
Then when I look at other peoples' ATARs (on AN, or anywhere for that matter) and their SS, it feels kinda....pressured, stressful?
Then I end up predicting possible SS for myself haha - it's like picking a result out of midair without even starting to travel the road.
I just want to focus on the subjects I'm doing and not think about the potential SS....
Can you guys relate, or am I totally alienated in this aspect?
I agree, but it's good to have an aim of some sort too. I think focusing on subjects and doing as best as you can is a good approach, but I also believe that you need a goal to work towards. Without it, you may be content and settle with what you have, whereas if you had a goal or an aim, you could keep pushing towards somewhere instead of no where.. I mean, with a goal, or an aim, you may work just a little harder And I think at this level, even "just a little harder" does count.
With regards to the pressure on AN, it depends on who you are I guess. To certain people, looking at peoples exceptional scores might be daunting and scary. It might make them give up or lessen their personal goals. Then you have those who feel pressured to match others in order to not look like the odd one out (this was me). Then you have those who use those scores in order to make themselves more motivated to do better! (me now)
Obviously, the list above isn't limited, it's just what I think.
(I was going to use "in order to feel like they belong, but it just sounds like an Identity and Belonging context thing to say)
