Two more things:

1. I don't know if you were planning to, but I'd keep voting anonymous on both FB and AN. That is, don't have "Cover X by Joe Smith". Otherwise, Joe's friends might all come and vote for his even if his design is a piece of crap. You might already have thought of this though.

2. You might want some sort of copyright disclaimer as well - otherwise people might stick a random image from Google Images on their design. I'd just say that any photography must either be the work of the designer or at least be included with permission from the original photographer.

Re: #1, this is impossible to defend against. Not to mention, I don't want it to be anonymous. I want people to go out and have their friends vote for them. It increases awareness of the books and is exactly the publicity we're seeking for them.

Re: #2, I would have thought this is implied. We obviously can't claim copyright over the work of other people... But I'll add a clause in, just in case.

Clarification

Quote
space for a description of the book (should be roughly 1/5 of the physical space of the front cover)

That's a massive area, what exactly goes in here? Got any book cover examples?

Attributes about the book e.g.

"Contains 7 exams with perfect solutions and fully worked, detailed solutions.

Refines your exam technique.

Written by a student who received a study score of 50 and a Premier's award!"

stuff like that.

It's okay, the design brief is to be simple. Every drawing of yours that I've seen has been ridiculously detailed. Why, I can still remember every hair follicle that you callously drew to make me look like more of a bear than an actual human being. DRAWINGS HURT YOU KNOW

In all seriousness, we'll miss your contribution and I wish you were entering :(

Could I make a more generic-looking cover, where more information could be added in if needed? I'm not very good with graphics, but I think I could come up with a basic design, but I'm not too confident on the text details.

EDIT: Just sent my design. :)

Just to clarify before I busy myself making the spine/back for these covers, is this the sort of thing you are after?

Just out of curiosity, what program is that?
‎"We divert our attention from disease and death as much as we can; and the slaughter-houses and indecencies without end on which our life is founded are huddled out of sight and never mentioned, so that the world we recognize officially in literature and in society is a poetic fiction far handsomer and cleaner and better than the world that really is."
- William James.

Yeah Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 - it came on my laptop that I purchased through my school. I didn't even know what it was until about a month ago and I've had this laptop for 2 years...

What do you think is more appealing for a book cover: lots of bright colours and shapes, or simple linear design with fewer colours and mainly vertical/horizontal lines, or darker colours with more shading and texture? I'm still not 100% happy with any of those covers.
