Nisha,

Adelaide offers u'grad dentistry. Do you take chem too? You can satisfy the prereqs if you take chem and physics, you don't need bio.

Nisha, you can also do Biology as an extra subject, if you're willing to really put your heart into La Trobe.

Other options include Adelaide, CSU, UQ and JCU, none of which need Biology.

Anyways, Samad, most medical schools don't over-offer, they actually have a Second Round, so any places which aren't accepted will be given out in Second Round. I don't think La Trobe Dentistry has a Second Round, the reason for it, I'm not sure why.

Nah, they still do for some reason (I don't think Monash does though).

I agree with Paulsterio and thushan though. Really give interstate options a consider, and if not, doing bio as an extra sub may not be too bad (although, being me, I'm in favour of dropping physics :P)

Hmmm, I think it'd be a bit controversial if they do over-offer, and even if they could, why would they when they have a 2nd round? It's too risky to make sense. I've never heard of Monash over-offering, I guess it's more of an issue with small schools which get rejected quite often.

But yeah, I think interstate is a real option, considering if you go to Bendigo, you'll be living there anyway, so no difference really. But hmm, I guess since you go to Overnewton, you live near there and in that case, Bendigo is only 2 hours or so down the Calder Freeway, which is good.

I still know people THIS YEAR, who've gotten in without Biology, well one person, but still :P

Most universities over-offer their courses because they know people, for some reason or another, either decline or defer.

I can't find where the 2011 offers stats are anymore, but VTAC said >200 unbonded spots were offered but it was later stated by Monash that 160 (or something to that effect) students took unbonded spots. They offer spots to a heap of interstaters and although some will accept, it is expected that a large quantity of them will decline each year in preference to their own state. Once those spots are declined, they only offer a small number (if any) of them again in the second round.

Over-offering is not the problem- I think most medschools do it too. Less people must have dropped out than they anticipated, i'm not sure why though.

@Boredsaint: for peace of mind if you want reassurance, what you should do is ring them and get the name of the person you speak to. Then, if they pull you up later, you can say you spoke to that person and they confirmed your place for this year.
dw guys i called them up this morning and spoke to my proxy who works there and she said i was enrolled and everything is in order :D

3 years of free uni plus a gap year is not too bad if you think about it for those who have to defer

That... is a lot worse than I thought it was.

Having a gap year wouldn't be so bad, but I'm sure a lot of the students had put payments on places to stay and such already and now have to defer that.

Damn you beat me to it. Deferring is better than being kicked out. Do they know how expensive dentistry equipment is? They should take advantage, work and earn money to prepare for the coming years, particularly the to on rural placement cause I doubt you can work then.
