No, it is definitely possible with 92. Show me where it says contrary to this?

All it says specifically, is that if you meet certain criteria 92 is the guaranteed ATAR.

Let's take a two students for example, one is rural and gets 92.2 and one is rural, survived cancer and financially disadvantaged with 91, they'd probably take the latter IMO.

Yes it's possible with a 92, I didn't say otherwise. But in with under 92, I've never heard of.

But in your example, the former with 92.2 has an ATAR above the 92 guarantee, and given they meet other criteria too (underrepresented school, financial disadvantage or rural, 25 science, maths and english), then they should have a spot regardless of the latter's 91 and severe disadvantage. The 91'er would then have further consideration, I assume.

The core subjects in biomed and some of the exclusive subjects (microbes in particular) present material in an integrated way that is consistent with the way medicine is now taught.  In science, I believe most disciplines are more separated.  So in that regard, biomed is better preparation.  Certainly not necessary but still nice all the same.

the level of talent across the board that you're working with. There's brilliance all around you and a lot of people are really determined academically. I really wanted to do a pure maths undergrad degree and post-grad med degree, but the strength and quality of the biomed cohort is what swayed me towards it.

Disagree, most of the people I've met in biomed are private school or SEAS. Neither of these things qualify you as greater intelligence than your typical Science student.

That's a contradiction? So what are you trying to say? That BioMed kids are smarter or that both cohorts are around equal?

I'm not trying to argue anything, I'm basically just discussing with what I know, specifically that why would anyone want to transfer to BioMed from Science when the prospect to entry to MD from both degrees is, more or less, equal.

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but I'm just curious as to the logical reasoning behind someone wanting to transfer to BioMed.

So can anyone tell me why i didn't get in considering I went to an under rep school and got 94.35? Was it because I didn't meet the financial disadvantage? Just asking.

Yes, guaranteed entry is only for rural and financially disadvantaged.

Did you read the post where I explicitly said that it prepares you better for the MD?

Oh, that sucks so you HAVE to meet both to get in for above 92? LOL

No, financial disadvantage or rural, sorry Russ I think you made a little mistake there.

Anyway, I guess if you're dead set on MD then a Biomed transfer would be good (?), but why give up the flexibility that Science offers? If you end up not liking it you can always fall back on another pathway, given you structure your timetable to allow for a different major.

I met rural background (under represented school) for SEAS and got well above 92. I didn't get in. Should I see someone about this? I also know a couple of people who got 93 and also didn't get in.

Rural background isn't underrepresented school. Underrep is where your school is recognised as one that's government funded (?), or otherwise at a disadvantage compared to other schools. You have to make sure your school is recognised as an underrepresented one before you actually apply for SEAS under that category.

Rural is where you are isolated, located in the countryside or something other to that effect.

My school is listed on melb uni's website as an under represented school isn't that valid?

Academic prowess and intelligence are not the same thing. You need to read more carefully.

Yeah my post was unclear, this.

For underrepresented school, yes. Not for rural. They're two different things.

Look, here's what Melbourne sent me on the day the ATAR was released:

Quote
VTAC records show you have applied for admission to the University as part of the Access Melbourne program and may now qualify for a guaranteed place in the undergraduate course of your choice.

If YOU

completed Year 12 in Australia in 2011,
qualify for entry to the Access Melbourne program under categories for
        rural and isolated applicants and/or
        a disadvantaged financial background and

satisfy all the relevant course prerequisites

THEN

    An ATAR of 78 and above will secure you a place in Arts, Environments or Science;
An ATAR of 88 and above a place in Commerce, and
An ATAR of 92 and above a place in Biomedicine.

There's no mention of underrepresented school, so you probably weren't considered. What was your #1 on your preferences list?

Oh, my first preference was Biomedicine I a, defiantly sure my school is in the access Melbourne program. Do you think it's worth looking into at ERC?

No, because you never qualified for either of the two categories that offered a guaranteed place. Please reread the UoM website carefully.
