Seriously, you guys should talk to MchLi off the forum ( I think relevant people will know who this is without me needing to explicitly name him) about getting him to write maths texts. That guys achievements are far far far more impressive then Derrick Ha's even and DHa seems to be doing quite well.

While some of you guys might have impressive 99.95s or study scores. You can't really compete with:
-Offered two scholarships to Scotch College
-99.95
-Study scores of 50 50 50 50 50 50 47 (chinese second lang) and 5.5 uni physics in which he duxed the uni subject.

I sit next to him in chem lectures and he's just an amazingly intelligent/humble bloke. I would buy his books for my little brother for methods and spesh fwiw and I'm pessimistic on the whole 'study-guides' thing as I and many others generally found them to be useless.

Would anyone legit not buy a book off this guy:

enwiabe and taiga are very qualified imo, they have a lot of maths behind them (and in front of them) :)

He's got his own studyguide?

I agree, Enwiabe is probably better qualified to do this then M.L, he has done higher level maths. But all I'm saying is that if I saw on a book the scores that M.L achieved and knew it was written by him, I would've bought it in a heartbeat in vce.

There are MANY pure mathematicians and other mathematicians at university and engineers etc who are in high level math. Every single one of them could write a better book then anyone on this forum. Just saying man. (apart from maybe Ahmad who is one of them).

But buying a book from 50 50 50 50 50 50 etc person is what can be the differentiator. He literally took the piss out of VCE. Completely destroyed it. That is the credential he has that the aforementioned people do not. 99.95 is one thing, having two 50s that don't even count to your atar is another thing altogether.

This is almost serendipity. Would he be interested in coming on board for Physics? The guy writing the Physics guide has finished about 3/4 of it, but is now doing gap-year teaching in Vietnam and won't be able to complete the rest, so I need to bring someone on board to finish it off and edit the rest.

Now that's an idea, there are NO good study guides in VCE atm!

It's not me, it's the guy who's username is mchli on AN, I can talk to him in a lecture if you want though?

Just write on the front cover:

This book is written by mchli, he achieved an ATAR of 99.95 with six perfect scores, a 47 in chinese, and duxed his university physics class of roughly (200?) university students etc etc etc.

How can someone look at said book and NOT want it?

Hahaha, I'm open for finishing and editing - I know my VCE physics! :P

There's a few flaws with this argument, MchLi is a beast, no doubt about it, but I personally think that getting Scholarships to Scotch, getting 99.95 and getting 50s in other subjects (such as English or Chemistry) aren't very relevant to the ability to write a good study guide for maths.

You have to look at other factors as well, one of which is the ability to explain things, and somehow make people who don't understand something come to understand it. Doing well in VCE subjects does not give you this ability.

I think you're sorta thinking about using his credentials as marketing power, right?

I'm not just thinking it, that's exactly what I did say?

I said, 'there are high level engineering students, pure maths students and enwiabe and taiga' who know more maths then him. I don't really think it matters who writes them, just about anybody who has completed vce methods could write a good study guide for it by the time they are second year university.

fact: mchli has more marketing power then cristiano ronaldo in the vce-books world. (not more then sachin though considering a large portion of the target demographic :P)

If you guys don't do snap him up, someone else will imo.

Yeah, but in the end, it's not about the marketing power, it's about the ability to write good books.

The knowledge of maths one possesses, relates somewhat to the ability to write a good book, but it's not the be all and end all. You're mistaken if you think that is the case. Why are some books a joy to read whilst others are just plain laborious. Some of my med texts are like this, some fun to read, others just plain dry!

MchLi, has marketing power to those who know him, but that will fade away. Either way, it's not about the marketing, it's about the quality

1. You are assuming that Michael Li does not have the ability to write good books.

2. Anybody who reads 50 50 50 50 50 50 47 5.5 will know of him.

3. It worked for Derrick Ha and this guy is better then Derrick Ha. If nothing more, just pay him $1 a book to put his name on it that he co-authored or something.

1. No I never said that, I just said that we shouldn't be selecting him based on his study scores

2. Not really, like I said, six 50s doesn't correspond to a good book, people buy books based on the content, not on how many 50s the writer got. So if I said that I got 50s in Chemistry, Latin, French, English...etc. does that really affect the quality of my maths book, umm, not really

3. That's unethical

But yep, fully agree with enwiabe, get him on board for the future books!

Paul, enough flaming Mike (mchli). Went to school with him. 100% endorsed guys. He wrote a goddamned trial physics paper when he was in year 12 - I had the fortune to attempt it, and I have to say it was extremely well-written.

Mchli would be an awesome guy to be writing questions for Spesh. I guarantee it.

Oh and Peanuts, you forgot that Mike was in the Australian team for the Asia Pacific Physics Olympiad 2011 in Tel Aviv, Israel!

enwiabe - get mchli on board, now!
