he makes academics to be everything. hes moved out this year, so i have a little more freedom, but yeah... like my friend did health last year, while i did viet, and she got 50, and he says it doesnt count, cause its health. like wth...

yeah i think ill wait till the end of this year, and try working on an epic speech (with tonnes of arguments and rebuttal points) ill try getting them to let me do spech. i think if i ball my eyes out and threaten to hurt myself (i would never do that, so dont worry) and try getting them to agree. or maybe a better way is to be mature, and let them noe that ive made a conscious and active decision to pick up further, and prove to them im smart enough to make decisions for myself.
thanks a heap man. really appreciate it. hey my brother always says stuff like that. he said that i dont DESERVE to do med, even if i get in, with anything less than a 99.5... i think his scores gotten to his head a little. He would never have done, as he calls them, 'retard subjects' like legal and further... and strongly disapproves of 95+ students doing them, which i think is utter nonsense considering a number of colleagues killed those subjects (48+)....
 and about the umat, im gonna flunk it on purpose so that i dont get med. i dont want to do it AT ALL!

I'm going to commend you for looking into your own personal interests as opposed to following in your brother's footsteps. Terrible mentality to have on your brother's part, he needs to lighten up.

IMO you shouldn't purposely flunk the UMAT, i mean you may have a change of heart later on? You can always flunk the interviews if you dont change your mind (Y)

I'd say dont do the 'threaten to hurt myself' thing btw, the latter option of being mature is much more appropriate.. You'd only make things worse with that false threat.

Hahaha thanks everyone, particularly thushan, vegemitepi, nacho, special at specialist and many others for helping me believe that im not alone i feel better just noeing people are genuinely concerned and willing to help
@ nacho, unfortunately i dont have cool as asian hair, and the 'crossing of curry with asian' just led to me looking spanish/white with black hair nobody would ever guess my heritage from just looking at me. hahaha

im gonna confront my brother, and tell him all this stuff. i think hes only pushing me cause he thinks i want what he wanted. ill just have to make things clear that hes a bit deluded and that just cause hes doing med/law doesnt make him second to god. he needs a reality check. i think ive also portrayed him a little unfairly also, cause he is nice to me when it comes to non academic stuff. ill get through to him no worries and hes the attractive one according to my parents,being taller than my, with darker skin and asiany hair.... im just worse than him at everything i suppose

I reckon your parents' attitude is an issue though, like in the end, what they're messing around with here is your future and not theirs. If you wish to do Commerce/Law, tell them so, Commerce/Law is by no means a bad profession and in many ways, very well respected. It is probably the second hardest course to get into at Monash, after Medicine, so try to convey that to your parents. Let them see that the course you are aiming for will place you amongst some of the best VCE graduates of your year. I know people with 99.95 and 99.90 who are doing Commerce/Law or Arts/Law at Monash, so it's by no means a bad course.

Now, the issue of your ATAR. I've always seen the ATAR as a means of achieving the place you want at university. But like, I've always found that it's good to see it from your parents' point of view as well. They want the best for you and in their eyes, what they are doing is trying to help you get the highest ATAR possible, they don't want to unfairly pressure you. The golden question to ask your parents is this: "what will the ATAR say once I've gotten into my uni course". The truth is, they won't be able to answer that, cause the answer is nothing. Once you're in uni and in the course you want to be in, no one is even going to remember what your ATAR is.

Not much else to say except this bit of advice - it's not about causing conflict between you and your parents, but it's about working towards a single goal. They want the best for you just as much as you do, it's just that they don't understand. It's up to you now, to help them understand that because their support will mean a lot to you in Year 12 and later on as well.
