Well - so it's about 1.5 weeks until the Unit 3 Chemistry Exam, 27 pages, 77 marks. How are you guys feeling about it?

SHIT NERVOUS! I've worked hard since the start of the year but I'm a bit (actually a lot) worried about screwing up on the day. Things like panic attacks or very silly errors etc..

Also, i'm not looking forward to the unit conversion questions...

Hard work pays off. If you don't think so, you're not working hard enough.

There's still a good ten days left, now is not the time to panic, there's still plenty of time to study.

VCAA, every time. Then NEAP, then Insight, then STAV, then CSE, then Lisachem. Lisachem and Insight are good to build up the difficulty and learn the stuff, but they're pretty similar questions; nothing new or really challenging at all.

What exam strategy are you guys using?

I tend to mix it up a bit depending on the exam, been playing around with it a bit but I think I've settled on this as my general approach:
1. Knock off most of the really easy multiple choice questions (about 5 to 10 minutes)
2. Move onto short answer, do the easy 1 or 2 mark questions first and then the rest in order, spend about an hour on it.
3. Go back to multiple choice.
4. If there's time left (usually about 10 minutes now), check over short answer.

Hoping i can get by knowing only the bio part of chem well, and the maths part of chem well.
All that's left is to know the instrumental analysis theory and the organic reactions and that'd be knowing most of Unit 3.

Exactly how I played it out last year :)

Also don't forget to write your student number on the front cover, do this as soon as they let you. I remember one or two people last year who forgot to do this, and had to go running after teachers so that they could talk to the examiners and get it fixed up.

I do Short Answers, skip any I can't do and always to the ones I feel most confident in.

Afterwards, Multi Choice. I try and spend 1 minute each and usually it takes less than that and that would mean more time to work on anything else.

Then I use my trusty yellow highlighter and go through each question. Hightlighting what the question wants or what it's asking for. I have saved my self quite a few marks by using this method, on trials!

That's it. Haha. :)

I'm fucked. Don't know why in the world I chose chem.

Its the most difficult subject I have ever done. What do you guys think of the difficulty.

Also what can I do to get a C-B on the exam.

At this stage I'm feeling fairly confident but just in case, I'm going to keep doing more papers and ensure that there are no gaps in my knowledge.
Wish I could say the same about the Physics exam :p
