B's what I put, and your logic sounds right. I'd say he glanced over it quickly.

As did I, The Nelson I.T Applications book as it defined as: What the solution will and will not be able to do, as well as how the user will benefit. While solution requirements are features and functionality that the solution needs to include, information it must produce, and data needed to produce this information.

Pretty sure he got question 14 wrong, because it's C.

It says <2009 and not <= 2009.

No, because the artist for record 5 is Black Eyed Peas which is a criteria for the query and C doesn't have 5 as a possible record.

Artist = The Black Eyed Peas OR Year < 2009.

Also i think he forgot the 9 at the end of D, since SongID 9 should be included as Timbaland's song is Year 2007.

Ah wait never mind, I just realised I was wrong, didn't see the 'OR'.

"The company would also like to set up an online community where users can discuss sensitive tax issues. Explain what should be considered when deciding if the website should be closed or open. 2 marks

Assuming that the users going to be giving personal or sensitive information that the whole world should not be free to see, a closed site is necessary."

I answered this question explaining if the users needed a username and login, and the site was about a certain topic and stuff, it would be closed. Would I get the marks for that?

Yeah sounds good. Considering that users require a secure account and the information being discussed is "sensitive", the website should be closed. It was only 2 marks so closed (1 mark) + a quick reason (1 mark)  should be sufficient.

What made me kind of confused was the "explain what should be considered"

I think if people talked about how both closed and open would affect the site would get the marks too.

They should keep the wordings simple imo.

I did, but he talks about why it's a closed community, but its asking you the things you should consider when choosing it to be open or closed.

Your totally right, I think the post mortem Mark Kelly  did is little to brief in some areas. Especially the last question under the Spreadsheet solution compared to his answer from last years. Hopefully it was a rushed solution and he edits/adds more in the upcoming days.

Quote from: Mark Kelly
Identify an online social networking website and explain how the needs of its users influence the nature of the website. 4 marks

One guesses the examiner is waiting for everyone to identify Facebook...

Users want to exchange information with friends, so the site needs to keep track of users' relationships with other users.
Users want privacy so the site needs to password-protect access to personal information and let users specify how much privacy they require.
Users want quick updates and responsiveness so the site must be engineered to update quickly and deliver data without delay.
Users want protection from abuse, so the site needs to set down rules and enforce their observance, and deal with rulebreakers.
Users want to see a lot of really dumb comments being made by uneducated bigots, so the site needs to allow Americans in.

Is it just me or are a lot of IT teachers smartasses? :P

Lasereddd and MJ, what did you think of this years exam?

a.   Describe how AppsNow can make sure that the apps stored online are safe from hackers. 2 marks

Require authorised users to use a username and strong password to access the apps.
Encrypt the app files so they can't be opened even if a hacker manages to get to them.
Use SSL or TLS connections to prevent user or app details being observed in transit.
Ensure the site is protected by a router and a software firewall to prevent port sniffing and unauthorised communication port access.
Are these suggested solutions a bit iffy? It's asking how they 'can make sure' that the apps stored online are untouchable.  Wouldn't that mean something like penetration testing (even though thats from SD)?

From the vceit.com website 2012 - basically done, but unchecked hopefully Mark Kelly does a detailed check and updates his answers.

I did the same, hopefully the examiners are on our side.

And I think if you like IT, venture outside Tumblr, Facebook and Youtube and know what 'fap' means without the help of Jack and Finn Harries... you're probably a smartass.

From what I've heard, 95% people I've talked to said this exams harder than last years, mostly because a lot of them had time contraints.

Anyway, that questions asks you how you could of kept it away from hackers, so you'd want to talk about a security method keeping hackers out and if you wanted to go further than that which you didnt have to, you could of probably talked about testing it. It was 2 marks so I'm guessing: Point and a reason.
