So , for GC, the gaseous sample injected into the sample, there can be one of three conditions :
A) condense in stationary phase
B) dissolving in liquid on the surface of stationary phase
C) remains in gas phase

I know that. A) can occur due to high molar mass of sample . But I don't understand why b) and c) occur?

Thanks in advance !! :)

Gaseous Compound

Surely that was a good guess :P

I don't know actually.

At first I read it as Gold Coast, until I realised its a chemistry question...
I don't believe I've learnt anything like this before... What topic is it?

I'm guessing that a gaseous sample will dissolve if it is highly soluble in the liquid on the surface of the stationary phase. If the sample is not highly soluble in the liquid on the surface of the stationary phase, then it remains a gas.

Thank you very much ! :)
Another question: Is there a reason why pencil is used when drawing the origin line, for example in TLC(Thin Layer Chromatography) , instead of using pen?

From what I've seen, apparently because there are many different substances in the ink, you'll find several bands of different colours. Pencil apparently isn't affected by this.

I'm not entirely certain though :)

Pen would dissolve in the solvent, pencil doesn't; the pen ink would move up the plate as a chemical.
