Exercise books and stationary for year 12

Hey guys,

I can't find if there is any thread regarding this topic so I'll just start one.

So, year 12 is only a bit over a month away and I need to start my holiday homework. But the thing is I don't have any stuff to use!!!!

I was wondering those who have picked out there exercise books and stationary already what types do you get, do you just get the normal ones eg: just kilometric pens, and the cheap 10 cent books or do you get the spirax etc types and good quality pens and pencils.

Btw for exercise books, how many pages should I get?

My subjects are english, spesh, methods, legal and accounting. Do you need a lot of pages for these subjects?

Cheers

for eng, legal and accounting, i got 240 page spirax books for each, for legal i'm certain you'll need a decent amount of paper, alot of accounting should be done in the textbook's workbook or on the computer but it's worth having a book still.

through year 11 though, 128 page books did me fine.

i have binders and plastic pockets for each subject too, but they aren't necessary if your just looking to get stuff you need to complete your holiday homework.

Thanks for your reply.

I was definitely sure of getting a huge book for legal, but for english and accounting I wasn't too sure. For both those subjects this year, I rarely ever touched any of them. 128 pages were actually too much for me this year. There was barely anything to write down for either subject. But I'm not sure whether that would change next year.

Yes, I already got binders for each of my subjects and hope they come in handy next year. But I probably won't lug around all of the folders to and from school each day, just leave them at home and maybe bring the document wallets for each of the subject to school then transfer them when I get back home.

No problems, same, I didn't use anything for accounting and barely any for english, I also only used half my 128 page book for legal, I think I was just in the mood to buy matching books for all my subjects this time around.

Document wallets are pretty good, I also don't like carrying binders, I usually just bring my workbook to class and organize my notes once I get home, but since it's year 12, I thought it's better to be safe with big books. You could always buy a 5 subject book and use one per term or unit?

i'd try find a pen that you can write easily with! I was a big fan of the pilot pens, as much as I wrote (such as in the english exam), my hand never got tired haha. I found the kilometricos okay, but it didn't compare to the pilot ones

Document wallets or those display books are pretty good. Yes, you're right, I'd rather have more unwritten in pages left at the end than swapping books like every time and not knowing where information is.

I am really considering the 5 subject book or just the 240 page spirax one, but they're so expensive LOL. The 5 subject book is actually really good, because as you said, you can just use on per term and then use the last one as a notes/defintion section. I'm just going to wait until officeworks have the back to school sales and buy then. In the mean while, I might just use one exercise book to do all my holiday homework in the cut them out and stick them into my actual book. Not sure if thats a good idea of not :/

I used the papermate profile pens this year. The grips were quite good so I might use them again this year. I actually got a really good deal for them at the start of the year at big w when they were selling them in a pack where you buy two and get two free. The only bad things about these pens are that the ink is used up so fast!!!

Regarding the pilot pens, do you mind giving me a specific example as to which one you recommend??? I know pilot pens are pretty good but uncertain as to which are the best. Kilometricos are so cheap and are actually quite good when you look at the price. I might just put them in my pencil case as a back up pen.

accounting i didnt really need much as we had a textbook and workbook combo thing.
but i also have a 120 page book which i used to write theory and things to remember for each chapter.

stationary just the usual for all your subjects
but i do suggest go to the newsagents and get a really good pen, maybe 2 or 3 at $8-10 that is comfortable, easy to write with and fast and use it for sacs and exams

When the supermarkets go on sale just grab as many books as you can. They will usually only cost around 5c per book because if the discount. But go early like day one or two of the sale cause they run out quick.

I love pilot ones too! And Uniball pens are pretty awesome as well! :)

I don't use an exercise book for english, a notebook has it all (and some looseleaf paper). One 120Pg notebook (without perforated lines) and two 128Pg exercise books for Methods. The same for spesh.

Kesh, just a few suggestions - why don't you get a few spare pens, pencils (to go with your rubber), whiteout (if you use it) or highlighters (erasable ones?)?

Or a few different coloured pens? Such as: I use red for very important notes and headings, purple for subheadings, green/black for sub subheadings, blue for normal notes and pink/orange/light green/light blue/yellow when I want to make things colourful.

Or maybe scissors, a glue-stick, a stapler, sticky-tape, paperclips...

I actually bought a bag of about 20 pens I think. Already had a few stolen haha glad I did. I forgot to put my pencil in there, but as a rule, I never use pencil If I make a mistake, I always cross it out. The rubber is there just in case, for random things that might happen. Like surveys and stuff :). White out, pretty much same as above. I'll buy some highlighters, good idea :), will be useful for english and my notes.

Ok this is going to be a long response to everyone that has helped so far. Keep adding what you use or have used when you were at school and share it with the rest of us!

I love pilot ones too! And Uniball pens are pretty awesome as well! :)
I don't use an exercise book for english, a notebook has it all (and some looseleaf paper). One 120Pg notebook (without perforated lines) and two 128Pg exercise books for Methods. The same for spesh.

I will most likely get some pilot pens since many are recommending them. I probably won't go for getting that many books for methods as I don't want to have to go through 3 different books when looking for a question or information.

accounting i didnt really need much as we had a textbook and workbook combo thing.
but i also have a 120 page book which i used to write theory and things to remember for each chapter.

I might get a 2 section book for accounting but only 120 pages. One part for any information and maybe some notes from the board, and then the other section for my own written notes for each chapter. Would you say that's a good idea?

I will most probably invest in a couple of good quality pens to use for sacs and exams.

When the supermarkets go on sale just grab as many books as you can. They will usually only cost around 5c per book because if the discount. But go early like day one or two of the sale cause they run out quick.

Hahaha I love buying those really cheap books, can't wait for those sales to arrive!

Haha awesome response, luckily I didn't get confused! :D

I only have a small pencil case so I only keep in it:
1. 3 paper mate profile pens (2 blue, one black)
2. One red pen
3. A small 15cm ruler. Will be upgrading this in the coming January sales.
4. My Casio calculator. I also have a ti nspire Cas calculator but only bring that when I will have methods and spesh.
5. Liquid paper, the pen one with actual liquid. Note: should I replace this with the paper version? Hopefully you know what I mean.
6. I had a really good rubber this year and had it since year 9 but unfortunately it was almost used up, so I will be replacing it ai a new one.
7. I have my glasses case in there, but will most likely take it out now, since I have to wear my glasses full time now :(
8. A yellow highlighter. Will most probably add a couple more different colored highlighters.
9. ANYTHING ELSE YOU GUYS WOULD SUGGEST I PUT IN MY PENCIL CASE!!

I will most likely put in some sticky notes and also those little post it note flags which you can use to put on pages you want to look back at.

Would you suggest to me getting a bigger pencil case, or should I just continue using my small one. Size wise, it is maybe 15-18 cm long and 8-12 cm wide.

So for you exercise books what will you be writing in there? Personally I think that 120 pages for your subjects is way too little unless these books are only for a term or semester. In which case, it is fine.

Would you recommend using Derrick ha's book as a bound reference or make my own?

Lol, I'm too scared to bring my iPad to school. I might just bring my textbooks to and from school, or just leave them at home and share at school lol.

And also, that's a good way of separating my English book. I might just do that instead of doing it per term. And maybe at the back of each section I should make my own notes about each book and anything that will help me in the exam for each text.

Cheers kesh :)

There's a erasable highlighter!?!?!
Scissors, glue etc aren't really useful unless you are an arts student. But if you want they aren't such a bad idea.

I recommend always using a pencil for any maths subject and therefore always having a rubber with you. You'll just be wasting more paper by crossing it out.

They're amazing! I'm sure there's other brands but I used these every chance I could, they come in heaps of colours too :)

Hey no worries mate :)

I think your pencil case should be fine. If it's holding everything together now, I don't see the need for a new one.
With regards to bound references, I strongly recommend you make your own because then it's tailored to you. You'll know what you're struggling in so you can emphasis in those areas more. You'll also know where everything is so it would help save time during the exam.

Also, I'm using my bound reference as a summary book as well, so after each little topic, I'll add to it. This will also help me remember things better.

I don't want to use pencils because I want to see my errors and how I can improve. I know crossing out is a waste of paper, but personally, I think it's worth it.
