Had school formal the other night, was crazy fun at Crown. How are you formal's going all? (had them already/coming up etc.?)

Personally not going. Just not my thing, too introverted etc...

People tease me about this, but like I don't have anything against anyone attending, I just find the concept does not appeal to me.

Really man? I'm sort of the same and was unsure about going until friends convinced me to give it a go, now I can safely say it was one of the best nights of my life. Once you knock down a drink or two or (in my case) seven it's pretty chilled.

We don't have one :(

Had an excursion to ACMI today for Focus Day (for English/lit/language classes.
Was supposed to be about accents for EL but I honestly didn't learn anything. Got to explore though and in the end it was a great day.
Lit went to the State Library and English to the National Gallery.

My formal was pretty good, no alcohol allowed tho :( it got a bit boring at the end but over all it was a good experience.

That's good to hear, they're pretty fun. My formal was organised by the students and school has no direct involvment hence alcohol was OK, although no alcohol was available at the venue itself, though pres and limos give plenty of time to drink ;)

And nah they were pretty strong. (I was slightly tipsy ;) )

Nah it's cool man. I know there's some people who just don't like that type of thing. Your choice, it's not worth getting upset about as really it's not such an important night, it was just a typical party pretty much for mine, nothing you can't get at another event, it's just nice to do it with your cohort I guess. Kind of like "one last hoorah" seeing you know you're going to farewell the group soon.

I'm going to a friends' formal tomorrow actually. We are getting a boat from the city to the venue, which should be fun  :)
My school doesn't have a year 12 formal, we just have valedictory at the end of the year (which is just students + parents/significant adults + most teachers)

^Same here. We generally have formal in year 10, deb in year 11, and then valedictory in year 12.

Hey, if I may ask a few questions which generally trouble me...

How does everyone conquer nerves before SACs?

How do you dismiss the anxiety which comes if you do not think you can get into a course you aspire towards?

How do you maintain focus of trying to do the best you can when it is ultimately a ranking system?

Thank you!

How does everyone conquer nerves before SACs?
-I do some deep breathing and visualise myself acing the SAC. Also try writing down your concerns about the SAC on a piece of paper beforehand or telling someone you trust.

How do you dismiss the anxiety which comes if you do not think you can get into a course you aspire towards?
-I remind myself that someone has to get in and I will do everything to ensure I will become one of those people

How do you maintain focus of trying to do the best you can when it is ultimately a ranking system?
-I tell myself I can only do what I am capable of, and there is no point in creating anxiety over things I can't control like the fact that others have different strengths to me and I have no choice but to be ranked against them.

I usually plug in my headphones, and play some music that gets me pumped/relaxed at the same time, full blast.
Just zone out for 5 minutes before a SAC, helps tremendously.

How does everyone conquer nerves before SACs?
I personally try not to do much related to the SAC when it is a few hours away or when it is soon. So if I have a SAC Monday morning, I will make sure I'm thoroughly prepared by Sunday afternoon or night, then I won't think too much about the subject until I have the SAC.

How do you maintain focus of trying to do the best you can when it is ultimately a ranking system?
Honestly, the fact that it is a ranking system for SACs motivates me - a bit of competition can be good for you. I also try my best simply because I don't want to let myself down.

I just didn't want to
I didn't either because I also didn't want to go - the thought of it didn't excite me whatsoever. People make such a big deal out of going to formal, but I saw it as eating a dinner on circle tables surrounded by teachers with a little bit of ballroom dancing. Turned out the formal was pretty boring, and I went to the footy and got box seats that night which was one of the motivators not to go, so I didn't go to after-party either which was even more terrible. Now I just have to live through the 'you didn't go to your year 12 formals??'
