Out of interest, how much do you get done in those 12-14 hours? I'm not having a go, just curious because I know I wouldn't be all that productive in that time.

Lurker here, thought I might be able to give some other insight too. I aim for about 10 hours, probably do 9-10 realistically. In terms of productivity it's probably overall 80% efficient; sometimes I get distracted and such but if I do I try to reward myself and take a break.

Anyway I wanted to ask how difficult is it to get a 35-40 in English, if anyone has any input? I've performed probably top 3-4 in my year level of 60 students, but I feel like it's due to my teacher being inclined to my writing style. Or some sort of biased marking. I just would like to know if anyone knows what kind of effort and literary skills are required to get an above average English mark. It's killing me as it's my worst subject.

How the heck do you guys do 9-12 hours a day. Or the better question is, why would you do 9-12 hours a day? I mean I take VCE pretty seriously but 9-12 hours will just mean you crash before the exam (we still have 1 month, remember!)

These days I have been maxing 4-5 hours a day and for the past two days, I haven't done anything at all o_O. Also, I doubt 9-12 hours a day is all that good for you. Your brain has a retention span so if you work for long hours, you only retain things up to a certain point then it just zones out... Just some of my thoughts..

chances are your teacher isn't biased. i think you're probably just judging yourself too harshly - we're our own worst critics tbh. i think it's pretty normal to feel like we haven't deserved our marks sometimes lol. if you're that close to the top of your year level, i'd say you're very likely to score 35+

I've been changing - 8 hours a day for the first 3 days, and then none when I was working (only when my shifts were 8hrs+ tho; so Tuesday/Wednesday), 5 hours on Thursday, none yesterday, and probably only 4 hours today. :( I'm going to try and get a little bit more done today, because I won't get much done this week (work mon, tues, sat).

Likely it isn't completely beneficial, however towards the beginning of term 3 I uninstalled all games and stuff, to do initially 3 hours of study a night (after school), which progressed to 4 hours towards the end. It gave me a sense of competitiveness I guess, and now every time I go out or I just ceebs I feel incredibly guilty.  But yeh, it will probably drain me prior to exams, I plan to take swotvac (spelling?) really easy.

@paulrus - True true, thanks!

edit: it may also be resulting from last year when I practically did no study for my 3&4 chem exam. Sort of disheartening looking back on it.

Yeah same here. I'm trying to keep to school times. I feel as though if you have less time or you limit yourself, you are far more productive in the time you do use.

How are you guys going about studying these holidays?

Like how many hours a day, if you do every subject each day or break it up?
These holidays I've been doing about 4-6 hours on average. Sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. It's pretty much the amount of work you'd be doing if you were actually at school.

Sorry if I've asked this too many times, but how long exactly is it taking you guys to go over exams?
Take as long as you need Rod! As bad as it sounds, I think that it's almost a good thing to make mistakes on practice exams. I get pretty annoyed when I lose marks on my practice exams, but if I've genuinely learnt something new from the mistake, then it's better now to make the mistake than later. So take as much time as you need to record and work through any of the problems in a paper, and remember that as you progress through papers you'll get a lot better very quickly so the time spent going over an exam will decrease over the next few weeks.

Thanks for the advice Zeal :)

'I get pretty annoyed when I lose marks on my practice exams'

What!? You lose marks?? hahaha :)

One more thing, I'm doing the NEAP ones at the moment. In my opinion they are more difficult than all the others, some TSSM ones are quite challenging. But I think the NEAP electronics section is way below VCAA standard. Just wanted your opinion on neap, because I know you've probably already done all the companies!
