my heart bleeds
why are you hurting me Mcfluerry? WHY? the novel is about the human condition, and how society disintegrates in the face of adversity when survival is not guaranteed (I actually only like the book because i really like Elinor and that is about it xD). Its more deep than OTW at any rate hahaha. HATERS! come at me! (please dont actually)
funny bunny

Anyway: just to contradict you: not all of society disintegrates in the face of adversity: think of good ol' Anna(apart from the fact she is obsessed with Mompellion), Barmester, Merry, Elinor (kinda; plagued by her husband's misogyny) etc.
to the point: not all of society disintegrates, but the social hierarchy does.
What's so great about Elinor? that she's selfless? okay, but how much of it stems from michael's influence on her??
Don't mean to hurt you, just to make you question your views and how strong they really are (in language analysis mode)
