I don't think you are meant to put in Scores. Just use the drop-down menu and select the grades, then it should come up. :)
Ok I finally figured it out, but I think it's quite...um inaccurate. I put in the exact results from VCAA that I got from last year for my 3/4, it came out with a 41 when I got a 44, so it's sort of right, but sort of off the mark..

Well I guess its different for every year, because Exam difficulty and scores received always changes from year to year. Also, I think Alwin is still working on it to make it more accurate. :)

Is not working at all for me :/
If you don't know the answer to a question, chances are it has something to do with changing the surface area to volume ratio or resonance.

Which subject are you trying to use it for?

I gave it a shot with what I had back when I did yr 12. It seems to overestimate study scores by a fair bit, e.g. for spesh it gave around 6 higher than the actual (putting a B+ in one of the entries and 47, I don't think so). I had a look at the code behind it, and not sure too much what you've done differently. Mao's old Study Score estimator was always really close to the scores I actually got. Besides making it easier to enter things and and putting the grade distributions on the side and Paul's stuff, I don't really see anything new. I know you put effort into it, it's just that it's feels like it's taken other peoples work and ideas and just made things look fancy, and then skewed the actual function of the thing.

EDIT: It really overestimates on the lower end... really don't want people to be getting a false hope here.

I've got a question to anyone who has done an exam at 3pm. Any tips on the leadup to 3pm so I can be fully awake, rather than be in that weird mental state where my brain just relaxes in the afternoon?
Go to sleep like 3am :) I really can't do morning exams, I love 3pm. That way there's no pressure to fall asleep early.

I wouldn't rely on it.
- Will vary by cohort. e.g I scored 82 for my P.E SACs, rank 1 and 85 for my business SACs, but for P.E the exams are difficult and unseen, where as in business everyone knows the question before the SAC so my rank has been ruined. People would assume I'd be better off in business because of the higher score but thats not the case at all.
- Grade distributions change every year, minimally, but still can affect you by 1-2ss
- Also, grades are misinterpreted by many. The cutoff for a B in some subjects may be something like 45%, where as in other subjects like some maths, the B cutoff is much higher. You can't really predict by letter grades too because sometimes they have a large range. I've seen some ranges up to 20 per letter grade. A high B or low B can change your ss by a few scores.

That's a great improvement though, in my opinion. Making an easier to use study score predictor is something we always planned to do, but never really got around to finishing. Especially considering that I don't think most people know how to use Mao's study score estimator since it requires a bit of extra effort to work out how to use.

It's probably just unfortunate that there's some hiccups in the calculations that it's making which could be easily fixed once Alwin gets around to it.

What I said was probably a little harsh and well yeah I know it was made in a short space of time, it's just that overestimating by that kind of margin can give people a false sense of security, and well a rude shock on results day.

Looking at the formulas though, I still can't find where the error is arising from, considering it should be close to Mao's old one.

Hey guys, been using this site for a while now but only just registered >.>

Thought this thread would be a pretty good place to ask for help/advice from other year 12s... There's one question that's actually been bothering me for ages. If I'm not in the right place to ask this, are you able to point me there? :)

I am the only one completing VCE at my school, and I was wondering what effect this would have on my school's average ATAR mark for the year. I mean, is an average even considered in this case?

Thanks.

The post those are replies too suggests that school kids should be welcomed into uni libraries. Yeah I disagree. And I've been in school too, just go to any public library or any school library or study at home. Not that difficult.

Might I add that having read that whole thread, the school kid is losing that debate significantly, hilarious read though. awks having clicked on his fb profile and looking at your school, it seems to be you. Oh well, good try trolling the internetz Sir.
