I'm really curious to see the Spesh Paper 1 this year, given the reactions after Methods today... :-\

Did people find it easy or hard? I heard that people found it relatively straightforward overall; spesh needs an exam where like 99% of people get 38/40 and then only a few get 40. From past VCAA data, that's not happening.

Really? Everyone I've spoken to said they found it quite hard! But having had a look at the paper myself I think it might have been the "under-exam conditions pressure" talking. Wait so you think it'll be hard haha?

I doubt. I cannot ever rely on VCAA to write a difficult exam for spesh now, given the trend in the last few years.
But we'll see in two days.
I saw the paper myself; it doesn't look that hard either.

I'll try not to be too biassed in responding to this.

It wasn't a hard paper at all when it came to the nature of the questions... Provided one had prepared adequately, there should have been no issues devising a method for each question during reading time. The main issue was that unlike in previous years, there was a relatively heavy amount of number, arithmetic and algebra skills required because not everything worked out as nicely.

Personally speaking now, I thought the exam was a little bit more challenging than what I was accustomed to due to the aforementioned difficulties. I also found it to be a lot more time consuming compared to other past papers - generally I can do VCAA Exam 1s in half an hour, but today I only finished with 5 minutes remaining and not enough time to adequately check over my work. Granted, this may not have been the case for everyone, and I always go super slowly in all my exams to prevent making errors in the first place.

Perhaps though my view is a bit skewed, especially against someone with such a high calibre like yourself. :P

You don't need to rely on VCAA though do you? Just get 100% and you're fine even if the exam was easy...

I have to rely on VCAA. I get 78 or 79/80 for ALL exam 2s now, regardless if they're Kilbaha or Heffernan or Neap. Write me an easy exam and I'm screwed.

There's no point trying to predict what will be on an exam... It's a waste of time. If you've prepared adequately, you shouldn't have any issues either way. I don't see VCAA changing its ways since enrolment numbers for the subject are still on the decline, but there's nothing stopping them from reverting back to a more difficult format.

How could you possibly be screwed. If its easier = you still do well, unless I'm missing some nliu logic here?

My mental arithmetic is so bad. My formula sheet was covered in simple calculations just so I could be sure I was doing things correctly. I'm almost certain I even screwed some of those up.

You're clearly in a far better position than the rest of us. I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine, nliu.

Is putting a line of staples down a few pages of notes sufficient for a "bound" reference?

Make it like one of the previous physics exams where 107 people get 100% and I'll be one of those people on 99%. Still.

Do you reckon its a subconscious thing? Where your mind decides "You know what, no. Nliu is pretty awesome already (#MVP2013) let's knock him down a peg"

Yes, you can have staples for it. :) Make sure its secure and all pages are stapled together.

If your allowed to do something such as the Image attached, I don't see why there would be a problem with staples. :P

I'm confused?   ???

I drop marks regardless of how easy the exam is. It's annoying. If the exam is like Kilbaha level, I'll probably still drop one or two marks; if it's Heffernan standard, I'll still drop a mark or two.
