I worked at KFC near school for almost 3 years, quit halfway through year 12 because of school workload even though i was only on 1 shift a week. I guess it depends on the management team but its not a bad place to work. The pay is okay once you finish your training and the people were generally friendly. I worked in the kitchen rather than front of house and it was a very demanding role with a lot of product to cook and a kitchen to keep organised and clean all by myself, the other option was working on the counter/drivethrough and packing the meals people ordered, so if you're okay with people that was generally the easier option since there were plenty of people but usually only 1 cook.
The point is its an okay first job. I wouldn't say it makes you hate the food but your uniform will forever smell like kfc so dont wear good pants with the shirt they give you if you do end up working there :)
EDIT: forgot to say that once you work there a while you can kinda work the shifts you want, they give new people the later shifts but after a while you can ask for better ones. The close shifts go really late and involve a lot of cleaning and are generally seen as the worst shifts. I guess my evaluation was based on being there for three years, so it's important to mention that it was pretty bad at first but got better and became okay after a year or so.

Have you considered tutoring nliu? Or working for a lecture company like connect or tssm or something?

how much were you paid hourly for the job? I need an idea because i will be supporting myself next year during university.

The only thing I heard about KFC is that they reduce your hours a lot once you hit 18 since you're more of an expense. My friend essentially lost all of his work there, even though he'd been there for two years.

And I agree with you that your first job definitely sucks at first. You wouldn't have wanted to have been near me when I started work. XD Once you push through it for three months though, it definitely gets better.

From memory I was on $13 when I was 17 and I think it was more like $16 or $17 for an 18+ employee, but it's slightly less for the first 6 months (training). There are likely better paying jobs out there and the thing that stick said about giving less hours to 18+ employees is true.

Entering the conversation late, but yeah, I'm going to have lots of fun trying to find full time work. :S

I'll try cold canvassing. The only thing is that you can't tailor your resume to the job.

Edit: I'm thinking about getting RSA and barista certificates. Anyone else?

I've been accepted by 4/4 McDonalds stores now. It's not that hard to find a job at fast food. I'm nothing extra special and I've had four interviews offered. You just need good availability, I said I'm able to work 24/7 and one interviewer said if I was hired she'd like me to work from 10pm - 6am - I'll take it.

Still waiting to hear back from Coles though.

Fast food shifts can either be the best or worst time of your life.  It's a gamble.

The positive is the fact you'll be working with peer-aged people. At my old workplace, I was the only junior they had. :/

Edward21,  man you make me cry from laughter.  :D
If you don't know the answer to a question, chances are it has something to do with changing the surface area to volume ratio or resonance.

sup guys its been a while;
went to schoolies now im back and i needa find something to do that may actually benefit me in life

literally my schedule for the past 3 days have been for me:
- wake up around 11 am, shower breaky etc
- play ps3/got my phone next to me so i go on facey as well til around 1pm
- eat lunch
- play more ps3/watch youtube videos/watch tv shows/surf internet til around 4-5pm
- go gym for an hour or so
- come home eat dinner
- more ps3/surf the net/facebook/anything i feel like til about 2-3 in the morning

haven't gone outside in the past 3 days as im kinda sick of my friends after spending a week straight with them

so yeah, you guys getting a job or something?
thinkin of applying at a retail shop or something
might go apply at some retail shops next week, definitely going outside tomorrow though, needa get my hours up

and shiiiit 12 days til the big day

My main focus has been getting my driving hours up. I completely neglected practicing in Year 12 and I'd really like to get my licence before the end of first year university. I've also taken up tutoring, which has been really rewarding and very enjoyable. Otherwise, my schedule has been rather similar to yours. :P

Through my ad on this website and through family and friends. I've only got two students so far, one being a cousin whom I do not charge and the other wishing to start in January. Be warned though, it's really slow for everyone at the moment. Understandably, people want to see results before they commit to a tutor.

When school starts next year, I'm going to send an email to my teachers to further advertise myself. I'm guessing this will probably be the most successful, since the students will know who I am (and what sort of student I was) and hopefully my teachers will put in a good word for me.

Yeah, Stick has pointed out a conundrum for us right now. We really can't advertise ourselves now because we don't have the results. Although I guess you could tutor Further.

Do teachers like it when past students offer to tutor kids at school?

it depends if they liked the students, i guess  :P

No, but that's what I mean. The way I figured, right now we can only really tutor < year 12, possibly even year 11 (unless there is someone here who knows anyone who needs a tutor for either texts or greek...i will literally pay you ....in food and spam mail).

Also, location. Most of us don't drive yet -_-
