Yeah. What'd you get for 9 I'm curious. The answer was B according to VCAA - (about LIP, 2012 assessors report) "able to justify this with reference to chronic adaptations to the cardiorespiratory system (such as increased mitochondria mass,".

yeah B is correct because increasing your LIP means working your aerobic system at a higher rate without an acculumation of fatiguing by-products.

yeah B is correct
Agreed.
It definitely cannot be D or C as lactate tolerance does not equal OBLA, as stated by VCAA. Also, LIP has nothing to do with the ATP-PC system, but rather chronic adaptations due to aerobic training. Lastly, if it was A, how can this help increase LIP? It doesn't matter how much glycogen and glucose you can store if you cannot break it down and oxidise it quickly enough - To do this, you need more mitochondria or increased SA or size...

My suggested solutions to MC:

1C, 2A, 3B, 4A, 5D, 6A, 7C, 8D, 9B, 10D, 11C, 12B, 13A, 14B, 15D

We (Connect) will be releasing a full set of suggested solutions with explanations once we get it done. I know you're all eager, so I released these ahead first.

For question 5, see http://www.wada-ama.org/en/world-anti-doping-program/sports-and-anti-doping-organizations/international-standards/prohibited-list/monitoring-program/ (as was mentioned). This is in line with the WADA rationale to “prevent the breach of health and safety”. In my opinion, I do not believe that the VCAA will award option B any marks as we are told that these monitored substances “are not on the list of prohibited substances” and thus we should rule out performance reasons.

Sweet.. not many mistakes so far. What about q7? I'm pretty sure its C but I've seen VO2 max expressed in other terms though.. so I wasn't sure. I'm hoping that I chose C.

For Q5, they really should honour B. Damn I'd be gutted if they didn't.

This one is a bit tricky. A linear relationship means a “straight line”. Looking at the dodgy diagram I drew above, we can measure data points from A to B (i.e. submaximal) and create the line.

From B, we imagine we continue the line until maximum heart rate is reached at C (approx. 220 minus age). From C, we look across to our oxygen consumption axis to find VO2 max.

Ok sweet, knew it was that.. One of those questions where you just wanted to choose D ><.

I had the same answers except for 5 and 'maybe' 7. I don't know, it was just feel obligated to choose D but I hope I choose C.

Do you think there is no chance they'll honour B for q5?

edit: ok thanks.

Okay, looking back at question 5 again, it's all a bit fuzzy and I may not be thinking straight pre-exam - I expect option B may be accepted. I will have a chat to some others...

For question 7,
According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VO2_max and the 'fick equation', VO2 max = cardiac output x aVO2 diff (which could be considered the amount of oxygen consumption by the muscles). Thus, it should indeed be C :)

Thanks heaps to peachesandcream for uploading the exam!

I had a look at multiple-choice and independently (i.e., without looking) verified the answers. I'm only a few questions off finishing Section B, so we'll release ASAP.

And Dismounted will cross-check after his exam :)

EDIT: Missing page 22 (proper) of the exam. I won't be able to finish without that, as it's got critical data. Otherwise, I'm finished!

Definitely. Tests such as the Harvard Step Test rely on this relationship for their predictive ability.

Most probably, I definitely had variety on my mind and was thinking of putting it down, but I went with the most obvious answers.
