I'm kind of in the same boat. I've always been passionate about arts/law and teaching; not really sure what i'd be best at. i think i might start with law (if i get in), and then if i hate that go into education, and then if i hate that stick with an arts degree and be unemployed. Basically organised my future haha. What are you thinking of taking as a graduate degree Alps??

JD as graduate, i wanna work hard yes for the first 3 years of accounting undergrad.. and by the time im 21 ill be more mature to take the JD seriously and just ace that course to be employable in a market.. that well everyone is a lawyer.

Ok if we all get in i say we form a baby Monash AN first year club. Because I will get lost, and it seems more fun to get lost with multiple people rather than when you're getting lost by yourself. :)

Oh I figured JD postgrad was more expensive with LLB as roughly the same type of qualification but as a cheaper undergrad. Also I'm scared of failing the LSAT haha. At Melbourne it's probably really competitive.

Want to be a neurosurgeon, and then from there establish my own medical/health organisation, possibly through a private hospital and expanding the organisation from there, possibly discover new medical breakthroughs. My ultimate goal though, is to be a mill/billionaire, and if this comes from starting somewhere, no matter how small, and if I follow my passion (medicine), then reaching my aire goals will be a breeze. (Okay maybe not a breeze but you know what I mean xD)  What about you?

You guys overestimate the money (and ease of getting it) in medicine these days ;) If you want big money, try your luck at gambling, stocks, or marrying someone famous.

As for neurosurgery, about half of med school wannabees want to do something like that, plus a bit of charity work in Africa, plus restoring vision of blind kids, plus some other godly achievement. After med school most are happy to be GPs :P Early days for you guys yet.

Are the job opportunities for JD graduates and LLB graduates the same? I've heard that people don't hire JDs because the hiring person may most likely have an LLB, and not want to hire someone 'better' than them. Apparently this is the same for all Masters vs Bachelors.

I'm not sure...can someone explain this to me?

UoM JD and Monash LLB are pretty much the same. There's no real difference in employability as neither is "better" than the other. ninwa wrote a good post on this somewhere but I'll leave that to you to find and read (edit: seems the thread got deleted, it was here, maybe PM her for a copy if she has one).

It should be noted that more than just a degree comes into whether someone gets employed or not, a CV would look pretty bare and weak without having done other things.

If you're being serious, of course! :)

I dont have many names right now but 'cosine', but thats not too medical... haha... Long way to go though, so many things ahead of us that are more important to accomplish to lead to the dream!

What about you, what do you plan to do in the future?

Hmmm, I'm thinking neurosurgery, a bit of charity work in Africa, restoring the vision of blind kids, and some other godly achievements; the usual ;)

Nah in all seriousness I have no clue, but as long as it's sciency and cool and fun I'll be happy :)

Yeah I know what you mean- my parents still tell me stories of how as an intern they worked way after-hours for no pay to appease the higher up doctors, and all, but then again it seems worth it in the long run (at least I hope)

But who knows there may be some other amazing job that I'll find in Uni, it's really to soon to tell for me :)

So for now, I'll be focusing on the easy things, like becoming a pokemon master, or becoming Hokage, or winning the gambling, stocks, or marrying someone famous :P

I'd like to work in finance

Not sure what role exactly, I've read into investment banking a bit but not sure if 80-100 hour weeks are something I can commit to just yet  :P
