It's very easy to spoof an e-mail address, just saying. It looks 100% legitimate, and you can't tell at all unless your email service picks up the spoofing and tells you. Some email services also junk spoofed emails automatically. But I'm baffled as to why someone would want to phish a VTAC...? Not much monetary gain to be made there, unless they store your CC/PayPal info.

Is there anything I can do about it? Like is it ok to check banking and stuff now? (overly paranoid but yeah)

Nah, he was a good mate - he said to them I didn't steal anything or never had intent to steal (which was true), but they kept saying that he was "just trying to cover for 99.90 pls". Not sure what happens at this point, as they have my address. If my parents find out, I'd have a better chance of survival jumping off the Westgate lol

Hmm, I'm not sure if going straight to the PD is the best thing to do, but I guess it helps to "prepare" your parents just in case something actually gets followed through. I have a feeling that with the mall ban, they won't proceed to take legal action (it's a fair bit of effort on their part if they do). Maybe it's best to give it some time...

Depends what information you entered or downloaded, only check banking if you didn't download anything, if you entered your bank details on that site you'll have to ensure that nothing is compromised.

If they follow up the investigation, I want you to look them directly in the eye, and say "I have +67 respect on AN, everything is all g fam"
Then everything should be all g fam ;)

I haven't entered any info since clicking on the link, but when I hover over the link, it links to the actual monash website, so I'm not 100% sure it is a scam.

So there's no process to "de-phish" or to confirm if something has actually happened?

I'm not sure if anything can happen if you just pressed a link. However if you downloaded something from it, scan your PC with a good antivirus software. You can also use VirusTotal which is just a webpage that can scan a selected file from your PC with 80+ different antivirus programs.

Seconding. Make sure you run more than one scanner, and if you find anything fishy (phishy? ::)) change your passwords and other stuff.

I think I made everyone suspicious...here...let me add to it. Many hackers and phishers dupe the CSS, or at least try to, in order to trick ya'll into entering in all your information. I can't really say anything solid because I haven't got the email. I just find it odd that they would send these emails 2 days before the release of ATARs. I'm going to call them on Monday, and check this out...if anyone wants me to...

I know what you're saying...Think about it though, in most cases, 'getting in front' of these kind of things usually works out better. It makes you more credible in the eyes of the audience (my language analysis skills are working in the real world!)...

Look at the survey questions:
2. Was the application form presented logically and easy to understand?
3. Was the application form easy to use and complete? If difficult or very difficult please include a comment.
4. How long did the application form take to complete?
5. Was the information regarding supporting documentation easy to understand?
6. Can you suggest how the application form could be approved?

Seriously. It's obvious that the application form was difficult to understand and the information regarding supporting documentation was non-existent.

And to provide further evidence, look at the logo for Monash on the survey. It has been very badly cropped. This all screams hoax.

EDIT: For reference, here's the link to the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=O9QI5tx8USa4rxdZ6CF41g_3d_3d

I wonder how they got your emails. It's quite odd because I didn't get one myself despite having Monash on my preferences so it's hard to say what they've done. I'd err on the side of caution.

My guess is that it's someone's idea of a joke. A sick, sick joke. I like to think that I'll look back at this someday and laugh, but at the moment I find this hard to believe.

More concerning is the fact that for the person who sent this to get all of our names and emails, they must have had access to the VTAC databases.
