This is just my opinion, but I would say do year 12 over one year, and see how you go. 5 subjects is a tough workload, but if you've been averaging good marks I would say go for it!

If you don't get the ATAR you want, THEN you can repeat year 12! (well this is what I'm planning on doing anyway, I'm also younger than most of my peers too)

Good luck :)

Thanks and good, luck for your Chinese exam, I'm sure you'll ace it :)

Lucky you, Methods and Chinese this year, I wish I was able to do methods this year.

It's just that I have parents who are asian lol, and they feel that if I don't do well in my 3/4 this year, I'll struggle a lot next year. They would prefer me to get a bad study score next year instead of this year. I'll be lucky to get even high thirties at this stage, but nothing is definite.
Hi appleandbee,

I reccommend visiting a psychologist or school counsellor to help you with your mentality. I know that I see one for reasons similar to how you described and to be honest the extra support has been invaluable this year. Completing year 12 over two years is an option, but keep in mind that you'll have to deal with 2 years of VCE stress rather than one. Doing less subjects might not necessarily be the answer to performing better or reduced stress levels.

yeah I have had anxiety issues for ages, need to calm myself down more. I find the school counsellors in my school a bit annoying so I'm finding one outside of school

I need some thoughts...

I did year 11 this year, and am considering doing year 12 over two years. There are a few reasons for this:1. I'm a year younger (skipped a year of middle primary school) and 2. I walked out of my first (and only, Revs in case you're wondering) 3/4 exam feeling that I screwed up, even though my SAC grades throughout the year were respectable. I feel that doing year 12 over two years would give me more breathing space if I did really badly in Revs. Some people in my school have done this in the past, but I haven't spoken to anyone about it yet.

If I go through with this plan, I'll be doing Methods 3/4, Spesh 3/4 and Economics 3/4 next year and English 3/4, Chemistry 3/4, Philosophy 3/4 and maybe Health 3/4in the following year. I did those subjects this year apart from Health. I'm relatively confident in Methods, Economics, Philosophy and English as I'm averaging (97-100%) in those subjects in a selective school and did Spesh 3/4 with a tutor outside of school. I'm understand the content in Spesh and got alright grades for the most part (high 80%s) although I could have done much better but I messed up the Dynamics test (44%) and end of year exam (like I left 1/3-1/2 of the exam blank because I got really nervous and it was the day after my 3/4 exam). In Chemistry, my grades have been really up and down (ranges from like 30% on one to 100% on the other), as my school set really hard SACS (with a sizeable failure rate and averages of 65%). Most of the year level, including me left portions of the Chem exam blank  :P.

If I choose to do year 12 just over next year I'll be doing Methods, Spesh, Economics, English and Chemistry (dropping Philosophy). I'm just really scared because I want to do my best but I got mental breakdowns throughout the year because I want to do my best and get really disappointed when I didn't do as well as I could've done.

Please give me advice and thanks for reading.

Look from what I am reading, I have made an assumption that you are really determined to do well in VCE, however it seems like you are caught up in this illusion that if you stuff up once, you believe that its all over. I advise you to take it easy! Just calm down, and take it step by step, do not stress and over-complicate the situation. VCE is an important transition in your life, but it does not determine who and what you are! Just do your absolute best, and when you walk out of an exammination room, wether you did good or not, you will be satisfied, because no man or woman can do more than their best! :)

Exams next week, feels like all my motivation has disappeared after my 3/4  :-\
Seems like most other school's have already finished 1/2s while I'm just starting.

I second the idea that perhaps spending two years to do Year 12 could have negative repercussions, especially if you're going to repeat 1/2 subjects it may get very boring. There's also the issue that everyone in your year will graduate while you'll be staying for another. Although it probably depends on whether you have good friends in the year below you, it might be weird when most of the people you know are starting Uni next year.
Going to a competitive school plus having parental pressure can really put things out of perspective, especially when it seems like others effortlessly ace their tests. The best thing is to probably consider what course you want to do after you graduate and set your goals towards that. If the requirement for that course is 92.75 then aim for that, don't get caught up in comparing how you're going against others. Don't worry about your Year 11 result, one of the main reasons people do a 3/4 in Year 11 is to experience the exam situation of VCE exams, even then, you don't even know if you screwed up at all. Often our own extraordinary high expectations see the worst in everything we do.

Good luck in Chem!

Mine started last week, although I have a few this coming week. Spesh was the day after my 3/4 and Chem was the day after after that, they were both so hard lol. Most people in my school don't really care about 1/2 Exams. Be what school do you go to, if you don't mind me asking? Good luck on your exams  :D

one of the main reasons people do a 3/4 in Year 11 is to experience the exam situation of VCE exams

This ^^
I can say from personal experience, the exposure to exams a year earlier really helped me with nerves and the like. It's really an invaluable experience that will help you so much in year 12

Thank you :-*

For some weird reason I'm not even feeling scared, although I haven't prepared THAT much, but Chinese is always going to be a tough competition with so few people doing it!

Haha it's even more tough since a lot of people who take it actually speak Chinese at home as well meaning foreign speakers are at a disadvantage (not so much with the exam but more the oral component). Either way, good luck for Wednesday strawberries :) 加油!!
