Do you speak Mandarin with your parents? How'd you find the workload along with methods? I plan on just memorising my whole detailed study, I assume mostly everyone does that as well.

Naww thanks for the encouragement  , yeah at this stage eco and eng is in my top 4, as I’m not really confident about Chem. Just a bit disappointed because I loved Revs so much so naturally I wanted to do well (not that not doing well affects my love). I’m doing Whose Reality. Now on Revs…

Despite all pessimism and real doubts about my potential revs score, I don’t regret taking it, even though I mainly took it because it’s one of those subjects where most people go straight to units ¾ (as well as the fact I was really interested in it). I did Russian and French too and personally found French harder to grasp.  It is difficult? In terms of actually understand the content (not really), it’s mostly reading-the textbooks in these subjects are extremely good resources, and well as other reading materials. In terms of effort, you have to be dedicated, you’ll have a huge stack load of written notes by the time of exams (be organised with it), and you also have you do a lot of reading and writing notes in your own time. I highly recommend getting hold of the HTAV (History Teacher Association of Victoria) textbooks for both French and Russian if your school doesn’t already use them, best resources ever, as well as Connect Education Notes-very well summarised. The main thing that distinguishes students in this subject is the ability to analyse the details of events as relate it to the bigger picture like the effect the event had on society and normal people at that time as well as the aftermath/future (How other things happened or changed in the future as a result).

So yeah, a good score (40+) is definitely feasible, even though I’m mostly likely won’t get that, I kind of regret not working harder at the start of the year in this subject. Please also remember dates and a couple of significant quotes. Also read other historians’ perspectives.

ty for the advice our school's using HTAV - the books look really in depth. i'll hunt up connect education; i was looking for a study guide! don't stress about your score - you never know till the numbers are out, you could just be distorting things and you may still grab a 40+ !!!

It requires a lot of work, but if you put in effort throughout the year consistently, then you'll be fine

Oh yeah. I'm so happy methods is done. I still have spesh though.

More so than motivation, I do it cos I have to and I don't really have anything else to do.  Also, for me, there's the drive to get good marks as I want to get into biomedicine.

Yes I speak Mandarin with my parents. They make me lol (although they're actually very fluent in English as opposed to most Asian parents like my friends).

Yes I memorised my detailed study and general convo lol. But I think everyone does that haha. just make sure you don't sound memorized. My mum helped me alot pretty much did the whole thing for me.

Yeah like a 99 atar is very doable but most people in general wished they had fewer subjects I guess.
I kinda wanted to do 5 next year (because I had trouble deciding what I wanted to do) but school was like 'no you can't' and I took on the advice of older students to only do 4 haha

Your school was like oh no you can't do 5? My school was like oh no you can't do 4! Even though I'll have 7 total subjects coz I did 2 this year. Apparently 4 is too little and we'd get lazy from not having enough to do

Yeah haha. They were like "what's the point of doing of doing an extra subject when it won't even count towards your ATAR?" So yeah, we're not allowed a 5th unless we like fail one of ours this year, or we do a uni extension or like distance ed/language school. (but if you did 1 3/4 this year you are allowed to do 5 3/4s next year).

Yeah with those friends I was referring to before, many of them go to an infamous grammar school lol (but apparently get the most 50 study scores in the state). It's the 'norm' in their school to do 1 in year 11 and 5 in year 12, even students that do 2 3/4s in year 11 still do 5 in year 11 even though they did very well in the year 11 3/4s (47+). I also know of two people that did six subjects in year 12, one did a year 11 3/4 and the other didn't but still managed to get 45+ in all their subjects (maths, science, languages, english). I think the students chose to do that though as they really wanted to do the subjects they were doing, they weren't force to by the school. I think this happens more in non-public schools rather than public schools because of the limited funding per student, meaning that they can't do more that the 'set' number of subjects unless it's done outside of school like through uni extension or a language school.

And don't repeat Methods.. you have the scaling of Chinese to help you out (if not then do well in your other subjects )

Well if you scored about 41-44 then I don't think repeating to score a few extra points will do you any justice since you could dedicate more time to other subjects etc. plus if Methods exam next year turns out to be 2014 then it would feel like a waste imo :/

I generally hear good things regarding TSFX's notes, I'd say you'll be getting your money's worth.

I can just see you getting 99.95
