I did that too. FML XD

I talked about the m/z of 88, I'm sure that will be paid.

Yeah I talked about m/z of 88... And I forgot to say that O-H wasn't present, I only stated that C=O was.

Sigh. Sort of preparing myself to lose 4 marks there. I can see how VCAA could be finicky about that. It's not really justified, because it wasn't really made clear that we know the molecular formula is C4H8O2. But I think we should prepare ourselves to be punished anyway.

Think I could lose upwards of 8 marks on this exam.

It did say one feature though, I'm sure that the presence of a C=O group rules out some strange looking C4H802 molecule

Yeah, I think C=O on its own should net the mark. The question was a bit weird since all the characteristics could apply to multiple compounds, but it wanted you to show how that particular piece of information could justify the provided molecule. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

agreed. Their not that mean haha :) its just the nerves talking, telling each of us we scored lower than we may really have :)

They are that mean! VCAA are made up of awful, pedantic and sadistic people. You never know what they'll punish :(

Maybe you guys are right though - I hope you are. I did at least 15 more praccies for chem than I did for spec - if I don't do well I'll cry haha.

Anyway, sometimes it's healthy to moan and tell yourself you're going to fail. Because then we the results come out, you're happy with whatever mark you get!

From experience let me tell you, this is not true haha. What you should do is push yourself to do even better (the best you can) with the exams you still have left to do, to make sure you make up for it.

I wouldn't say that. Rather, I'd say that it's good to know the worst case scenario so that you can prepare for it, whilst leaving yourself open for a better result and a pleasant surprise.

What do you guys reckon the A+ cut off will be? The 2011 exam was relatively easy like this years, and the total cutoff mark for exam 1 and 2 combined were 20 marks lost all up. Probable for this year?

As far as VCAA exams go I think 2011 was actually relatively difficult across both papers. I think the A+ cutoff for this year's exam will be in the realm of 105-108.

I totally agree with you, plus I think a lot of us may underestimate just how many marks could be dropped for this paper; I really feel like this one reflected the 2011 Unit 3 personally which was a 90% cutoff so 108/120 as you said.  :)

108 is a bit high - that's 90%. A medium-difficulty exam I thought this one was - so 103-105 is more likely.

2011 Unit 3 actually had an A+ cutoff of 85%. 2012 Unit 3 was 90%. I feel like this was probably in between the two in terms of difficulty. Plus I'm not underestimating the difficulty of having to compound study of both unit 3 and 4 for the same exam. It's also a longer paper than usual. Think all of these factors might have more of an impact than one would think.

Oh I definitely agree - I only went as high as 90% because of what other people on this thread are saying. My personal impression is that it'll be between 102 and 105.

Oh sorry whoops haha I've been looking at graded assessment a lot lately and I must have clicked the 2012 one, sorry!  :-[
