I deleted my account in year 12 because i knew deactivating it won't help (with several more buttons, I could reactivate it!) I created a new account and added everyone back after year 12 :)

would you say it was worth it?

A lot of people deactivate it for their studies but I actually find it helpful for my studies- You can contact people who do you don't have on your phone and it's good to discuss past exam questions haha

So deactivating facebook doesn't last long for me..

I deactivated my Facebook account around the start of Year 11, not because of VCE or anything, but because it just annoyed me all the time. I'd been wanting to deactivate earlier, but a lot of photos of my friends were taken by me and uploaded on my account and so I would feel guilty taking those away, but then one of my friends told me not to worry about that.

I never reactivated that account. Because I genuinely dislike Facebook, it was pretty easy (after an initial stage of mindlessly going to Facebook out of habit before remembering I'd deactivated). You'll find that your real friends will still make the effort to contact you/invite you to things/etc., and vice versa. There are also plenty of better methods of procrastination.

I only made a new account earlier this year when I decided to run for a committee position in a club/society at university.

During high school at least, when you'll see most of your friends everyday at school anyway, I don't really think Facebook is that essential.

I would prefer to de-activate facebook for year 12. It has been a huge timewaster in some ways personally imo this year.

But the issue you must consider is if you require fb for communication with your peers. This year, fb was vital simply because it allowed me to discuss a LOT of schoolwork with my friends especially extension Chemistry in which we started even doing some uni level chem (for the NQE). I also used it to keep up to date with school events because we had a schoolpage with event updates etc etc.

This year for year 12, if you are part of leadership groups for school, fb might become even more important as it could become a primary mode of communication and discussion with the other leaders of your peergroup.
Personally, that's why I am completely unable to de-activate for year 12 even though I would like to. I know that during the exam period I will though, just to stop myself going on out of habit and wasting  time :)

In year 11, I kept facebook till about July. Then, when it came to crunch time, I deactivated. None of my friends thought I could do it; but I did. I reactivated at 10:45 AM on Monday the 4th of November, about 15 mins after I came out of my second Further Maths exam. For year 12 though, I'm probably deactivating from day 1.

Deactivated mine throughout the whole of year twelve!

I didn't miss it very much, for me Facebook is only there as a procrastination method. I was able to still keep in contact with everyone I wanted to quite easily and didn't have to worry about or become involved in any of the drama involved with the site.

I'd recommend deactivating it if you're like me and know you'll just use it to delay work rather than actually having any practical purpose for it :)

seriously considering deactivating, not so much to study, but simply cbf facebook, my facebook has lots of drama and my newsfeed is always the same stuff, sometimes i wonder what life was like in the pre-facebook years

basically i was wondering, if you have deactivated - how has it gone for you? tell me everything :P
and also - what are your thoughts on deactivating also - whether you have or havent

I heard a lot of these cases and i did it also once. If it will give you peace of mind then do it. I myself had a peace of mind and sort of my friends and relatives missed me in a month i've been away in FB. so it did helped me :) ;D
