Yeah, that question really could've been worded better

Now I just gotta figure out what units I have to take

What are your interests/preferred areas of study?

Super high school sort of question, but is there some kind of course advisor/counsellor type figure we can speak to about unit selection?

Righto, I would suggest you make your first year units something like this:

Semester 1
 - ASP1010: Earth to Cosmos - Introductory Astronomy
 - PHS1011: Physics
 - MTH1020: Analysis of Change OR MTH1030: Techniques for Modelling (depending on your level of mathematical ability)
 - An elective from any faculty

Semester 2
 - ASP1022: Life and the Universe
 - PHS1022: Physics
 - MTH1030: Techniques for Modelling OR MTH2010: Multivariable Calculus (if you did 1020 in sem 1, do 1030; if you did 1030 in sem 1, do 2010)
 - An elective from any faculty

Hope this helps! (You can probably find some reviews of these in the Monash University - Subject Reviews & Ratings thread)

Thanks, that helps a lot. I'm guessing there aren't any absolutely required units for BSc regardless of major, then?

Yes! Every faculty has an enquiries desk where you can go to plan out units and the like. I'm not familiar where it is for the Faculty of Arts, but it's probably in the Menzies Building. The faculty website should also have a 'contact us' email, but I can't find it at the moment :)

You're welcome! Nope, the only absolutely required units that BSc students need to take (with some exceptions, I think) are STA1010: Statistical Methods for Science and SCI2010: Scientific Practice and Communication. You can take STA1010 whenever, and SCI2010 after first year.

Is anyone able to enrol into units yet?

I haven't filled out the HECS Help section yet, but am predicting you're able to enrol into units + use Allocate once you get past the HECS section? Or is that incorrect and you're meant to pick units later?

Just having a quick look at the BSc Handbook, it says

Code: [Select]
(b.) at least one level-one mathematics or statistics unit from:

MTH1020 Analysis of change
MTH1030 Techniques for modelling
SCI1020 Introduction to statistical reasoning
STA1010 Statistical methods for science

If I'm taking MTH1020/1030, I shouldn't need SCI1020/STA1010 then, right?

You're correct, I did the HECs section and enrolling in units is available to me now.

Did anybody read all 27 pages of that HECS-HELP document?

Do you have to do this section? Or is it not final, just indicative?

Yeah if you're doing those other maths units you won't need the boring stats unit. The whole idea is to get students to do at least one maths/stats unit if they don't plan on involving maths in their degree, and STA1010 is normally the one that most do. But in your case you'll be able to go without it :)

I don't think you have to do it yet, I haven't done it as I'm not sure how my program structure works. So I'll probably just wait until the enrolment day for my course.

Well if you don't apply for HECS you will be paying for uni up front now.

When you enrol in your units it takes about an hour for allocate and wes to change accept your changes to your enrolment so you can use allocate straight away. But play around on MUTTS to work out a timetable that suits you.

I read it all. Technically, all you have to do is click the link to the document on the hecs page. I made the mistake of reading the document before going into the hecs page, put in all my details, and it still errored out because I didn't click the link to the document from that page itself

Bachelor of Economics Advanced with Honours here! :D

Should I bother doing MTH1020, or go straight to MTH1030?
Monash seems to have multiple different prerequisites for MTH1030, with those being:

1) MTH1020
2)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4
3)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4 with at least a B average in the exams
4)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4 with a study score of at least 30

I did Specialist Maths in VCE with only a S/S of 32 (and 37 for Methods), with a B+ in Exam 1 and a C+ in Exam 2. Any opinions? I just hope I won't struggle in MTH1030, especially if there is Linear Algebra (hardly did anything with matrices in Methods apart from Probability and Transformations of Functions).
