For 2f. I used 10 instead of -10 and ended up with a positive answer. How many marks will I lose for that?

In methods, you NEVER are required to write units. Ever. There are no exceptions. Every question can be answered to full marks without writing units.

The only time you write units is if YOU have changed the units of the answer you are stating, in which case you have changed the magnitude of the answer and must justify it with the appropriate unit of measurement. Like the question "Find the height in cm of the plant to the nearest mm" or whatever it was, unless you converted your answer to mm, you can simply leave it unitless.

That's really interesting, thanks! Always thought units were required and allocated 2 minutes to checking them in today's exam.

"Time is up. Stop writing," said the exam supervisor. I breathed a sigh of relief. Mathematical Methods is finally over. "Make sure you've filled in your answer sheet." My heart stopped. I looked over at my multiple choice answer sheet and, after having done every trial without filling one in, realised that I had forgotten to fill it in.
The next moments involved vigorous hand movements and lots of lead.

Dayum, I should write a novel.

Just to clarify. Have vcaa marked people down in the past for not writing 1000 WOMBATS instead of just 1000. Seems a bit over the top.

No that's impossible.

I think this should be fine regardless - firstly VCAA haven't said anything in exam reports about forgetting units, and we're finding n(10) = 1200 + 400 cos(pi*10/3) = 1000; the value of the function is 1000, so the population is 1000 wombats.

No that's impossible.

As absurd as it is to model a biological population by a sin curve, of all things, wombats would count as a unit of measurement if it was specialist or physics. Units are not required in methods however.

What about for the maximum/minimum population question. Did you need to write WOMBATS there. Sorry about this. I'm just really concerned. Sad to get everything and lose marks on something like that.

Does anyone know if marks are lost for writing mg/hr instead of mg/L/hr for Q3ci?

Hm, I doubt it - remember, examiners want to reward you, not penalise you almost vindictively.

If your maths is good, your mark should be too; don't worry too much about the rest.

For Question 2, would a mark be lost for not having absolute values in the log function? I.e. ln(2x-1) without absolute values.

Obviously with these numbers it worked without the absolute values, but I know to be entirely correct it needs the absolute value, would I lose a mark for it though?

Thanks
