I hear some speculation on question 6 CORE, I got B but some people say it's A(something to do with the outliers).
Can someone confirm this?
(Image removed from quote.)

I did A for that question, and i'm not sure if it's wrong or right.

I've done some googling and it appears there is no definite answer. E.g. the website link below shows that A is correct, but other websites show B is correct

I understand where people are getting A from, but to me the most correct answer would be B, because it's asking for the maximum value. Regardless of whether it's an outlier or not, the highest value is still 180. But yeah, I can't find much online about it either  :-\

99% of the time, losing only 1 mark will result in a 50 given your ranking/cohort strength is good. A 50 is also possible but very unlikely if you lose 2. Don't worry too much about marks now though, just focus on acing the next exam.

Thank you so much Intel and good luck for your exams as well  :) :)

Okay I just found this in the Nelson Cengage notes/book and this is indicating that the outlier is counted as a maximum, which would make B correct for Question 6 in Core.

No it's not

The ratio of volumes or k cubed is 1:2 so the ratio of distances is 1 to the cube root of 2 or 1: 1.26 so the bases of the two sides are 8 and 8/1.26 respectively. That gives a base of 6.35 so d is 1.65 which is closest to distractor A.

Would be interested to know where people think k squared comes from - the question is nothing about areas.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

The answer is B: 2.3 for Q9 of Geometry and Trigonometry. You need to use the fact that the volume and face area of the smaller wedge are half that of the larger wedge.

k = (8-d) / 8
k^2 = 1/2
Solve 1/2 = ((8-d) / 8 )^2
Therefore, d = 2.3, option B

The answer is B: 2.3 for Q9 of Geometry and Trigonometry. You need to use similar triangles, and use the fact that the area of the triangular face of the smaller wedge is half that of the larger wedge.

Actually the volume was half for the smaller wedge (k^3) so you had to cube root that find the length of the smaller wedge then take that away by 8, you get A
[2015] Further Maths Aim: 50
[2016] English Aim: 35+, Chemistry Aim: 40, Physics Aim: 40, Specialist Maths Aim: 40. Math Methods Aim: 40

Hopefully you and I achieve our goals!

The ratio of volumes is equal to the ratio of the areas for this triangular based prism.
