anyone know what the 'average' WAM is across unimelb? like what most people get?
One of my tutors said that 70 is around average for most subjects, but I'd take that with a grain of salt. I don't think anyone really knows for sure haha

I think I got a 100!
Wtf how is that even humanly possible?? Shit dude, congrats!

I know one 'goal' that departments are supposed to go for is to have <=20% of students get H1, and they get in trouble if one year they make an exam too easy or something and they have to ramp up the difficulty next time. There are maybe other measures/goals like failure rates and stuff but i have no info on these.

As far as I know, some departments also scale results towards goals like these i suppose, but I don't think that's the case for all subjects because a lecturer this year mentioned that they don't scale results in that subject.

Wtf how is that even humanly possible?? Shit dude, congrats!

Thanks i'm stoked! Take a subject that just resonates with everything you know and love, for me that's theoretical computer science. This subject has been an absolute blast.

Syntax should be updated by now.

My WAM dropped quite a bit, and it matches my LMS mark, so it's definitely been put into the system. Second-worst exam mark and experience ever (after my half-blank Calculus 1 exam), but I scraped an 81 overall thanks to my decent assignment scores. I really object to the idea of a sit-down exam for Syntax. A take-home would have been so much more appropriate.

Also had a 92 in repro phys appear just now!!  ::)
Didn't do as well as expected on the 40% exam, so I must have fudged the MCQ. Nothing like the days of 100% botany, but it was a tough subject and I'm happy :)

@silverpixeli: congrats on your 100!! And congrats to everyone else who's satisfied with their marks :)

Yep, syntax was a nightmare night-hag of an exam. Simply horrible. Good work on the repro phys - at least your score in that somewhat makes up for syntax.

The thing is that syntax used to have a take home exam. Not sure why they thought it would be better to have it with timed conditions (it makes zero sense to me).

Haha, I know you did better than me, but I hope your other marks are good as well :) Seeing the word "night hag" actually makes me feel slightly unwell after its appearance in two of the subject's assessments  :'(
I really don't understand why they changed it either. I know the coordinator used to be different, so maybe the change just reflects Peter's own personal educational philosophy. What annoys me is that the handbook for this year said it was a take-home exam too; I swapped into the subject late, so once I realised it was sit-down, I couldn't've swapped into another breadth even if I'd wanted to. I felt really prepared to destroy a take-home by the end of SWOTVAC - I reckon I would have been able to get at least a score in the high 80s with a bit of knuckling down and focus after all the preparation I did. Maybe that's exactly why they got rid of the take-home; final scores being too high? They could always moderate the final results, or mark them more strictly, so there really isn't a good reason to make such an involved subject, in which intuition is discouraged, half-weighted on a time-intensive and complicated exam. I knew how to do everything on the exam, but under time pressure it really isn't feasible to do anything other than rely on your speaker intuition and race through the paper. I and two other people emailed Peter and his response was basically just that since people did relatively well on the exam, he wasn't going to reconsider it. So be warned, any future syntax students!

lol my WAM went down for GENE20002 and the result is equal with CHEM10006 as the worst subject on my transcript. Probably indicative of the level of effort I put in haha. I just hope my other two results are not significantly worse. :P

My study for GENE20002 was from 10am-3pm the day of the exam...and it's somehow my highest subject this semester?

Anyone have any idea what the likely requirements are for the women in engineering scholarship? Like expected grade average etc.

My study plan was something along the same lines... I had much bigger fish to fry.
