Yep, syntax was a nightmare night-hag of an exam. Simply horrible. Good work on the repro phys - at least your score in that somewhat makes up for syntax.
The thing is that syntax used to have a take home exam. Not sure why they thought it would be better to have it with timed conditions (it makes zero sense to me).
Haha, I know you did better than me, but I hope your other marks are good as well

Seeing the word "night hag" actually makes me feel slightly unwell after its appearance in two of the subject's assessments

I really don't understand why they changed it either. I know the coordinator used to be different, so maybe the change just reflects Peter's own personal educational philosophy. What annoys me is that the handbook for this year said it was a take-home exam too; I swapped into the subject late, so once I realised it was sit-down, I couldn't've swapped into another breadth even if I'd wanted to. I felt really prepared to destroy a take-home by the end of SWOTVAC - I reckon I would have been able to get at least a score in the high 80s with a bit of knuckling down and focus after all the preparation I did. Maybe that's exactly why they got rid of the take-home; final scores being too high? They could always moderate the final results, or mark them more strictly, so there really isn't a good reason to make such an involved subject, in which intuition is discouraged, half-weighted on a time-intensive and complicated exam. I knew how to do everything on the exam, but under time pressure it really isn't feasible to do anything other than rely on your speaker intuition and race through the paper. I and two other people emailed Peter and his response was basically just that since people did relatively well on the exam, he wasn't going to reconsider it. So be warned, any future syntax students!
