I actually have no idea how they mark the exams.. Like I was almost unaware until after the exam had been completed ;-;

They compare your results against everyone else who sat the exam, which reflects upon the score you will receive later in August.
Your score from each test will be put into one of the six categories: below average (bottom 20%), low average, average, high average, above average and superior (top 12%).
Eg; your score for maths is 30/60, which places you in the superior category for maths, as only the top 12% of the population obtained that score.
Generally, to get a place at any of the schools, you'd need to get at least a high average for a few tests, and about one superior at the least.
However, your current school affects how likely you are to get an offer, if the 5% rule applies.
Eg; you go to a school with 200 students in your year level and 12 people are trying out for the schools. Even if you performed really well on the day (but not as great as everyone else who tried out from your school) you might miss out on a place as only 10 people (5%) from your school can be accepted.
Essentially the marking system is just based on how you performed compared to everyone else.
Hope this helps…

Do you think they mark one piece together or separately?

Probably separately, but they're likely to cross-check with each other

Thanks so much!! This helps me understand it a lot, your way of speech (text talk?) is very easy to understand.

By this, I meant your score for each test

The outcomes will be sent out via email or text (?) on the fateful morning of August the 11th.
The actual results of our performance comes out later in August (the 31st?).

HAHAHAHAHAH, me too
52 days… that sounds so long…
That's 1,248 hours…
Which is 74,880 minutes…
Or over 4,000,000 seconds

I hope that you two get in with dashing success!  ;D

I really wanna get in, I've been hyping myself up for it. Though considering how badly I performed in numerical and math.... *cringes*

I hope you get in, too! :)

I really wanna get in, I've been hyping myself up for it.
I'd only be concerned about not 'getting in' if I came from a 'competitive' school with over 50 or so kids trying out, i.e GWSC... The 5% rule doesn't apply to me, thankfully
I'm really hyped about it as well, I really don't want to stay at my current school

Though considering how badly I performed in numerical and math.... *cringes*
I'm sure those two tests (out of six!) wouldn't affect your chances too badly... yes, they were my weakest, too... ughhh...
But hey, one of my friends didn't even shade in their remaining bubbles (about 30 of the remaining ones)!
I avoided spending too much time on a single maths question, so I skipped heaps in between and only confidently answered the 15 or so questions I knew I could work out in a minutes' time. The rest of my answers were either all C's or 'educated,' yet probably bad guesses.
I thought I was prepared for maths, but nooope, I spoke too soon...
I don't really care about my Numerical and Maths results anymore, cos I think my other scores'll make up for it

I bet you guys are going to get in.
For me, Numerical was the worst.
It's going to be so long until we get the results.
I don't think i can wait that long.

This really makes me feel a lot better and I'm the same as you, I really don't wanna stay at my current school. I think that 20-25 people tried out from my school. I'm not sure if that counts as competitive though (like 150 people in my cohort?). And yeah though I'm not very proud of my maths and numerical, I'm fairly confident in my verbal reasoning and reading comprehension.

Time for the maths ~
5% of 150 = 7.5, which should be rounded down to 7. 7 people from your school can get in, out of the 20 people trying out. :-\
So it is a little competitive... 20-25 people is a lot, there's only about 5 people from my school trying out
Does the 5% rule makes more sense? I don't think I explained it clearly before

Ahh but my school is all girls, so how would the calculation change then?
