Anyone know any good Brave New World related texts? Not any that are overused please!

V for Vendetta is popular but is a REALLY good related text - Worth considering at least!

If you like satire consider Dr Strangelove (Or how I learnt to stop worrying and love the bomb) - it's a satire :) If you like the Cold War period this will be particularly interesting :)

Hi everyone,
I have an essay question due next week on how T.S.Eliot uses distinctive images to critique modern life. We have to refer to Prufrock and one other chosen poem, which other poem do you think would be good for this question and also I don't have much analysis on many poems so if anyone has good resources for analysis that would be great!!
Thankyou

heya! Wow T.S. Eliot has been super popular recently haha!

I'd say the poems that would work the best with Prufrock and that question would be Rhapsody of a Windy Night or the Hollow Men (Preludes would work well too, but I personally prefer the other two in terms of the depth you can go with your analysis).

In terms of resources there are a couple of things uploaded in the notes section for T.S. Eliot. I'd also recommend having a look at some of the stuff on Sparknotes :)

Hope this helps!

Hey, I have an upcoming assessment on TS Eliot in the form of a speech (my previous post). How would you structure a speech in English? The speech is like 3 minutes long and must refer to two poems. Thanks !!

Hey! Welcome to the forums!!

The "values" are pretty much just your concepts within the text. The main themes and ideas that the composer is presenting to you. Context refers to the background of the composer and the text - Historical events at the time, the personal circumstances of the composer, and more.

To answer this question, you need to look at how (meaning, techniques and how the text is constructed) the composer is presenting the values to the audience, and how these values are representative of their context.

You should read this guide on writing a Module A essay!

Technique for this?

“there seemed to be no color in anything, except the posters that were plastered everywhere”

Thankyou :)

Hey, there's a few things at play here. In the most initial sense, there's imagery here. We are visualising a black world with colourful posters. So, imagery. But after that, do you think that the author is actually describing a black and white world? Or is that a metaphor - perhaps for everything being boring and unimportant, but the posters demand the attention? I want to talk about the word "except" - it's both a preposition and a conjunction in this instance, and I think it works to make a powerful parallel between the colourless and the colourful. :)

I was wondering what the difference between active and passive voice? Also, how would you go about writing both of them in an essay?
Thanks  :)

hiya guys,
In approaching a T.S Elliot essay, would it be best to do it thematically, or is there another way of structuring the essay that would work well for the nature of his poetry?
Thank you!

In my opinion thematically would work best, as the questions tend to be on how Eliot represents ideas - thus structuring your response around the ideas works really well. However I'm biased - this is the only structure I knew how to do for english last year haha.

From the speech ‘A Home in Fiction’ (Geraldine Brook 2011) and ONE other speech of your own choosing, discuss how the speaker’s exploration of the complex nature of human experiences contribute to the enduring value of the speech.

Can someone please help me deconstruct this question..I don't completely understand what it means. What would be a sample thesis for this? Also I was thinking of doing Brooks and Lessing for this essay..what themes do both these speeches share?
