I mean in terms of maybe emotional or spiritual fulfilment, but mainly as a result of discovery. I was thinking about it more and do you think that Miranda's discovery of love could provide emotional fulfilment?

In a way, but you must keep in mind mirandas love for ferdinad has been brought upon by prosperos spell.
You could also argue that emotional fufillment is gained from alonso discovering that his son is in fact alive.
Also, this just came to my mind, you could say that prospero is fufilled after his discovery in act 5 (please define what that is, i completely forgot!) and how he abandons his magic and feels more furfilled.
Let me know if you need anything else
I hope this helps!

For module a we have to construct a visual rep for Mrs Dalloway and The Hours ( film) and analyses how the visual rep  illuminates the connections between the texts , while deepening understanding of their values , significance and context. The main themes are mental illness, sexuality , mortality, constraint of society, social commentary ,time . How can these be visually represented?

Hello ;D

I am currently doing area of study:discovery, and I have chosen "The story of an hour" by Kate Chopin as one of my related texts.
I'm having trouble linking this to one of the prescribed Frost poems - I'm looking into the concepts of how emotional distress can lead to fresh perceptions and how changing circumstances are a catalyst for the enlightening nature of discovery. I'm still working on my thesis, but i want to be able to draw on these two ideas. If anyone has any ideas LMK!

Thanks! ;)

This is what I have so far, but I'm still not sure which poem to relate it to.

Introduction:
Individual distress can lead to fresh perceptions as changing circumstances are a catalyst for the enlightening nature of discovery. The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin (1894) from Virginia Commonwealth University insightfully explores personal discovery in the wake of severed marital relationship, where futuristic exploration of the personas attributes and personality can be anticipated because of death.

Topic Sentance
Individuals experiencing grief through contextual breakdowns can discover discrepancies between perceived situations and reality.
Ideas in Related Text: Death of husband; feelings other than grief coming through

Topic Sentance
Freedom gained through disjunction between societal norm and individual emotions can present opportunity for intrinsic self-discovery.
Ideas in Related Text: Personal excitement to rediscover herself in the world

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for my questions but yea. I have an assignment that is a combination of both reading task paper 1 and the paper 1. The catch is, instead of the extended response from the reading task this will be replaced by a modified version of the paper 1 essay. So for the last question, we have to use one of our prescribed texts (one Robert Gray poem) and one of the reading task texts as our related. I'm not exactly sure how to prepare for this though. My teacher gave me a practice question and I've attempted it, if anyone is willing to mark it, I will be one very happy student!! Also, for the modified extended response, can anyone give me tips on synthesis as that is the area I need the most improvement in?

THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!

Welcome to the forums! I think the key will be symbolism - For example, constraint of society could be symbolised with fences, padlocks, anything implying restriction. Time could be represented with clocks. Try and think of items that have connotations linking to these sorts of themes! ;D

Hey there! I don't have links for you because I haven't studied these texts. But I wanted to say that these are impressive ideas and it looks like you're beginning to pull together a discovery essay really nicely. This is the hardest part - bringing in your ideas and trying to get them to gel together in  the texts. But it looks like you're doing well! I'm keen to see how this progresses.

In terms of bringing these two sub-theses, perhaps you could talk about individual circumstances/context being a catalyst for self-evaluation/enlightenment?

Hey guys,
So the essay question that I received from my teacher is: 'Any significant discovery has both short and long term effects. To what extent is this view reflected in your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing?' So I'm going through The Tempest again, but I'm struggling to find examples of a short term discovery. Would you classify Ferdinand's 'discovery' of Alonso's death a short term discovery? If so, how does this impact his perception/values?

Thanks in advance!
