Thanks man, i'm just worrying about whether or not this will be like easily mould-able for my exam tmr ;-;
I'd keep in mind that discoveries can also be intensly meaningful from a physical and intellectual perspective. Also maybe something about transformation of self (reword that, it sounds clunky). You also mention the negative impacts of that discovery, what about positive
Sorry i should've included this above ^^^
Anyway, still looks pretty good regardless

Thanks man, I'm rewording my thesis at the moment so it can satisfy both positive and negative discoveries. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't specify intellectual XD, if it does I'm just going to apply that devils' advocate thing and disagree with the question hehe

Defiantly try that!!
My teachers are always saying "you need to work with the question"-if your thesis doesn't work with the question make a new one up
Well how about making the question work for you? Be stubborn, disagree with it and force the question to work with YOUR thesis!
Good luck!

Not as great as I wanted to ): All my analysis is there but I don't know if I've synthesised enough and linked it back the question enough. I was literally writing my conclusion in the last 10 seconds XD Hopefully I still did ok.

I suppose your analysis is arguably the biggest chunk! So hopefully the marks don’t come back too dusty for you. Always room for improvement :) Let us know how you go!

Could anyone help find any techniques within this statement? "Did the sufferer, stung at once with nettles and ridicule, and shaken nigh to death by his fall, use any angry expression to them, they retorted in a moment by calling him by every opprobrious name which their language affords." It's from Tim Flannery's anthology "The Explorers".

You can pull out analysis on nearly anything, but its usually themed based.
Do you have an essay question with a certain theme you need to prepare for? Because that will shapoe the analysis you pull out of the statement

Our topic focus is based around the notion that discoveries are part of the human condition. I don't really know how to interpret that from this statement seeing as the context is based around a European explorer embarking on an expedition in Australia.

Hey, so I have my short answers tomorrow and I was wondering if an integrated or block approach is preferable for the 5 marker (mini essay) at the end?

Define what you mean by intergrated and block approach?

Integrated - Weave both texts into one paragraph to support one idea (x2)
Block - One paragraph for each text supporting one overarching idea

The human condition is a bit of a wishy washy statement in my opinion. Usually when students use it in their essay without it being the request of the question, I usually advise that an aspect of the human condition is explored (Eg. The emotional experience of the human condition).

In this situation it seems like you need to focus less on the plot's basic outline of exploration, and think about the motives for this. What could cause someone to be an exploring? Is curiosity a part of the human condition - experienced by many, if not all, but in this particular circumstance it manifests in exploration? So you should focus on the experiences in the text that transcend the plot line - what aspects can people relate to, even if they've never explored in the same way?

Hey Elyse,
This is slightly off topic but how do you bounce back from receiving disappointing assessment marks for AOS, especially if you are aiming towards a high atar?
Thanks :)
