A bunch of answers here, check through to see if your question is answered in this post!Question; what is one key difference between the advice offered in the Healthy Eating Pyrmaid and Australian Guide to Healthy Eating? Could I say one encourages limitation of salt and sugar use whilst the other does not? Would that be sufficient for 2 marks?
It's likely that'd only be worth one mark, but ideas:
- ADG recommends breastfeeding and safe storage, AGHE doesn't mention it
- ADG recommends physical activity, AGHE doesn't
- ADG mentions salt limitations while AGHE doesn't [and I guess it doesn't *specifically* say sugar either]
- ADG is in text, AGHE is visual (only if asked for the difference between them, not between their advice, if you see the difference haha)
Edit: *facepalms* after encouraging you to read questions carefully, I just jumped to the Dietary Guidelines rather than Healthy Eating Pyramid LOOOOOL. Learn from me
Hi Guys!
new-bie to star notes here hahaha,
2 questions i would love some help on!
1: in justifying program questions, whats the best way to go about it for 2 marks?
2: in a question like "identify one NGO and explain one way they work to reduce maternal mortality rates in a developing country like Somalia" (3 m)
Do you have to know specifics from a program to answer this? like World Vision?
Hey, allykaykay! Welcome on board
1. I'd suggest mentioning that there's high [burden of disease/mortality/YLD/whatever] from the disease this targets, and explain specifically how that program will help to reduce that BOD - that justifies its existence, why we spend money on it
2. That's an unlikely question - they're more likely to say 'one way they COULD work to reduce...' in which case you can make it up. They could make it broader, though, and say 'Identify one NGO and describe one program they have implemented to improve health and human development in a developing country', in which case I'd advise knowing one real one... but if you have to make it up, you're unlikely to lose marks.
Is it a possibility that they could ask for a specific program though??
They may ask you to give a specific program that has been implemented, but you can choose which: they'd never ask 'Describe Oxfam Australia's XYZ program implemented in Cambodia' or anything haha.
Also - if asked about the medicare levy/medicare levy surcharge - do we need to be able to list numbers? For example, a question asking about the medicare levy surcharge:
"...those who earn over 90,000 per year are taxed an extra 1% on top of their current tax for medicare..."
or can we just say
"...those who earn over a certain amount are taxed extra on top of their current tax for medicare..."
Nope, you defs don't have to know that data
Would my answers score 5/5?
a) Identify and describe a program that could be implemented to address education and literacy (2 marks)
Non-government organisation Save the Children’s ‘Literacy Boost’ is an initiative implemented in developing countries to improve the education of children to create a generation of educated people for social and economic development. The program provides book banks to encourage children to read, helps children to learn the alphabet, read story books and construct their own written communication, and funds teacher training so that appropriate and effective strategies can be used to ensure children are learning.
b) Explain how the program identified in part a could promote sustainable human development (3 marks)
As the program provides ‘book banks’, it encourages children to read short stories and familiarize themselves with written text. This, in turn, enhances their capabilities by providing improved literacy skills, which can be used to achieve decent work and an income, thus their standard of living, enabling them to meet their needs in the future, such as their access to a steady income, food security and secure shelter, so that they can continue to improve their social and economic sustainability. In addition, the ‘book banks’ program also prompts children to read to their parents, siblings and relatives, therefore not only providing children with an education but also adolescents and young adults, who may then apply for better work as a result of their new skills, which may improve their living standards and productivity, therefore enabling them to continue to send their children to school so that the sustainability cycle can continue to develop and needs can be met in the present as well as in the future, achieving growth and stability.
That'd definitely get 5/5!
Do we have to know NHPA programs in depth?
You
do need to know some specific/concrete details because if you just say 'This program aims to reduce type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy eating' then you won't score well. A few specific details can then be padded out with how this impacts the NHPA, making a fairly long and solid response without knowing much haha. [BUT YOU DO NEED THOSE FEW SPECIFIC DETAILS]
Hi guys, was just wondering, if a question asks to 'Outline VicHealth's mission (commitment) 2 marks' , do we provide the whole mission - the 5 points or do we just outline 2 points - because of the mark allocation
This isn't a likely VCAA question - they're more likely to ask for how a program reflects VicHealth's mission. But if there's something uncertain like that, then it depends on your timing - I'd do two of them, and then when you've finished the rest, if you have time, come back and fill it in with the other three.
