To Kaize and anyone else who feels anxious:
You guys did fine! Instead of stressing out about your results, relax for the rest of the term and the holidays. You've worked hard and deserve a break, so don't worry so much. Whatever happens, happens.

Hey there!
Don't stress out. Since you're in Year 7, you still have a lot of time to prepare yourself for the test. I don't recommend doing a selective course or expensive tutoring. You seriously don't need it. Places like James Ann really aren't that effective because they give you work that is way harder than the actual test. So, save yourself time and money by not doing it.

You should understand basic science concepts. Whatever your school teaches you through year 7-9 should suffice. if you don't already know, the JMSS test format works like this:
• Science reasoning
• Numerical reasoning
• Prac report
• Mathematics
• Scientific essay/response

To be honest, for the science reasoning, you don't have to study a whole lot for it. They give you the information and graphs, so if you think logically, you should be fine.
The two essays give you a lot of information, so even if you don't know much about it, you can still write an essay about it.

For maths, you should probably try to focus on learning Year 8 and 9 stuff. Try to do it quickly and not make many mistakes.
For numerical reasoning, improve at worded questions and number patterns.

This is pretty much all I could think of at 3AM XD

If you're in year 7 this year, then you can't do the JMSS entry until 2019. I assume you're talking about the MHS/Nossal/Macrob one?
Either way, if you want to go for JMSS, unless you want to cover all the science you've ever learnt in your life, honestly studying wouldn't help xD It was purely logic based this year, along with some formulas that you should have already learnt already.
For math just cover year8/9 ish and you'll be fine. I found that year 8 math was just more advanced year7 stuff, and year9 was more advanced year8 stuff along with some new things.
It's mostly the speed that counts c: I went to JAC for JMSS test practice, although the content didn't help because everything was a lot harder (they would throw in VCE stuff which was rather dumb), my speed did actually improve, which helped in the actual test ^^
But of course the practice wasn't cheap, so I would just stick setting time limits for yourself and see how much you can finish in that time limit.

Either way, good luck and don't stress out too much, you're only in year7 soooo enjoy life lmao

I would also recommend searching online for free practice tests and trying them under timed conditions.
Once you finish it, go over what you struggled with and try to understand the process of solving it.

Wait a few weeks/months and try the practice test again under timed conditions.

Use free ICAS sample practice sheets to prepare for JMSS (scientific reasoning and mathematics). They're very similar.

I agree with mi-xao-14. The ICAS tests are great for increasing test speed and will allow you to familiarise yourself with the exam format and types of questions. If possible, try to participate in the actual ICAS or any other maths/science/English competition. You can ask school teachers or year level coordinators about this and they should be able to let you know about them. The competition certificates can be a great addition to applications and what not. I am assuming JMSS asks you to write an application? Good luck studying for the exam!  :)
