OMG I literally have a list of things that I used to believe as a kid but not anymore!!

I have a lot, so I'll only mention a few. Some are:

-If you eat a seed (like from a grape or something), a plant grows in your stomach.
-There was a frog in my stomach that croaked when I got hungry because it wanted food (actually just my stomach rumbling)
-I believed that babies had batteries and if they didn’t stay quiet you could just take the batteries out
-I thought police were bad because they put people in jail (I thought it was for no reason)
-In movies, where there was a young character and then later on in the movie they had grown up, I thought they waited for years for the same person to grow up so they could continue filming the movie, and I though “wow, that would have taken an awfully long time to film!"
-I thought the moon followed me because it didn’t seem to be getting further away when we were driving

 ;D ;D ;D

Got a couple that are pretty funny in hindsight.

- My older sister told me that if any kind of non-shampoo/conditioner soap ever touched my hair, even if I washed it out immediately, it would cause it to fall out and never grow back. Believed it until at 15 I tried to remove a bit of my hair I didn't like but it (surprisingly) failed.

- Also I didn't know wigs were a thing and thought that in videos and stuff where the hair colour changed it was actually stunt doubles with different coloured hair. For some reason I associate p!nk very strongly with this one ::)

- I believed that the cats could use telepathy to communicate with my mum and tell on me for being naughty. Removing the cats from the room didn't help, which lead me to believe not only could they relay exactly what they were seeing, but that they were also capable of interpretting my dismissals and dobbing even if they weren't witness to the crime. Turns out I'm actually just not cut out for being a criminal.

- I thought drop bears were real and could open windows, so every night I would leave snacks and a note asking them not to come in and eat me. The snacks and note disappearing every night was further evidence that they were capable of coming and eating me in my sleep, but didn't because of my gracious sacrifice.

Slightly different to the OP's topic, but:

Some genuine questions I remember asking in public when I was sort of... too old for them to be reasonable hahahahaha.

1. We were talking about identifying a baby's sex before birth, and I ask "but how do you figure it out after they're born?"

2. You know the whole thing about relationship problems being caused by him leaving the toilet seat up and her leaving it down? I was like "but who leaves it up? why would one leave it up and the other down? what's this all about? I don't understand :( explain pls"

In both cases, everyone looks at me like "dafuq heidi you're not a 5yo anymore don't make us explain" ::)

Not me but my friend believed until the ripe age of 14 that babies actually grew in your stomach hence the term 'in the tummy'. When we explained it to her in PDHPE, her whole world fell apart.

One that I believed personally is that my toys all had emotions and that every day when I left my house, my toys would have to sit together so no one got lonely (I was 6). I use to also get scared that if I didn't they would come and get me at night.

haha reminds me of this one time in year 9, when I had a friend very condescendingly tell me that "the womb doesn't exist", and when we told her "ummmmmmmm, yeah it does, womb=uterus" she promptly told us that "no - you're thinking of the placenta." That was one strange conversation.

It must've been recurring theme in the younger years. Glad I wasn't alone in trying to explain the anatomy of a woman to a prepubescent mind. Those are the conversations I wish I could forget  ;D

I used to think that food had emotions, and also had families. So say I'm eating meatballs, I would always finish everything on my plate so that the meatball family weren't separated, and that they could unite once again in my tummy. I remember one time I was so full I couldn't finish, and I literally cried for the 2 mini meatballs I left on my plate, thinking I separated them from their mommy and daddy and brothers and sisters. Yeah. I don't believe that anymore :'D
