I regret going to the school I go to right now, lmao wasn't my choice tho..

I changed schools just recently because I hated the school I went but I don't know if I regret it. I had to leave all my friends and some of my favourite teachers behind which was the most devastating and there was very a unique program only that school had for one year. It's so hard moving schools, my perspective and respect for new students completely changed. Its a depressing period you have to get through but I'm sure some people had a amazing experience on the first day :)

So, definitely something hard if your shy, but could be really cool.
I did mock trials last year for legal (so, slightly different to debating) -and had a really amazing team. I was a witness once-which was really scary (like you needed to learn your witness statement and I got cross examined by a girl from Hurlstone!). But, it was one of the best experiences of year 11-like really cool to prepare and do.
The first meeting might be a bit difficult! But, it could end up being really fun :D

oh my gosh!!! mock trial is literally the BEST. i had such a great time on the team, and as someone who's quite socially withdrawn (i don't like social situations, like a party, and i probably never will) it was absolutely nerve wracking the first time, even though i was a court officer. my confidence in speaking grew gradually when i was a barrister twice but mock trial is always something i look back on really fondly :-) lots of great memories and amazing people

It was so much fun :). I was a solicitor first, then a witness and a court officer. They were all really different but so cool. We also had a big team of about 14 people so it was great for brainstorming all our ideas. We actually did another case last term against the year 11's and we were so underprepared but it was really good.

Yeah, like a lot of things, signing up for stuff like this is often the hardest part. ;D I really encourage you to give it a crack!

(I know I'm a bit late but just had to reply to this! Hope it gets seen aha)

I'll be honest, I have an on-off stuttering issue that I've struggled with since I was little, but I loooooved debating about stuff in a debating club at school. It was really a nerve wracking thing for me to do (knowing that I could mess up and embarrass myself at any moment) but I did it anyways with the support of one of my teachers (shout out to him for being so kind, even though he didn't know about it) and three mates, we participated in a small comp and ended up coming 2nd. We were very close though to first though. And although I was initially disappointed in myself for not doing as well as I wanted to (I did end up getting a tad too nervous at the end) it was still a great experience knowing that I gave it a go, and that took me one step further in improving with public speaking. So it's definitely a skill that takes time to be developed, no matter who you are. Everyone starts off somewhere.
