Favourite Subjects and Why!

Hi All,

I recently did a poll about favourite subjects, but i was told that doing a normal post like this would be even better, where people could voice their opinions about ANY subjects and explain all the great things about it that make them love it!!

Cheers,  :) :)

I don't think I have any favourites because VCE ruins everything I love about anything. It's a complicated love affair, intertwined with more teenage angst and bitterness. That said, I tolerate literature the most from all the subjects I've taken.

For me, I have two classes which I absolutely love. As much as I've tried, I cannot pick a favourite between Legal Studies and English.

I enjoy legal because the content (and the legal and political system in general) really fascinates me, also my legal teacher is truly incredible and makes every class interesting and understandable. I moved into 3/4 this year without having done 1/2 and have really found it to be my unknown strength. I've been doing quite well in it so, naturally, I really enjoy every minute of it. Now, while I wouldn't say I'm the most incredible English student, English has always been one of my stronger and favourite subjects throughout high school. However, I have found I even enjoy it more this year than any other year, which I put down to the fact that I have an absolutely amazing English teacher. My teacher is really passionate about his job and helping his students improve which I find has made studying English really enjoyable. I've noticed a major improvement in my writing because I actually want to match my efforts to my teacher's, and (undoubtedly because of my teacher) I have really come to appreciate English and can see how important my writing skills will be to me when I apply them to my future career and life in general.

If I think about my other classes, I enjoy the class much more (and typically perform better in it) if it's evident that the teacher is committed to and enjoys their job and seeking improvements in their students irrespective of whether they are the brightest student in the class or not.  :)

Did bio last year and I loved it so much. It was weird looking at the clock being afraid that the class would end rather than looking at the clock waiting for it to end like all my other subjects. Just learning about all these interesting things happening in cells on a molecular level was very cool.

This year, spesh is a rather fun challenge (apart from bloody trig). No boring functions from methods, and all the dry calculus of methods is extended into something interesting with lots of applications (kinematics/differential equations/vector calculus). The new stats part also seems to be a good addition (hypothesis testing is awesome).

Chem is a solid subject too. I didn't like unit 3 all that much. Thermochemistry was decent, rates/equilibrium was boring, redox was decent, but unit 4 is way better, with organic chem and food chem being the main components (analysis kinda sucks though).

Thanks mate! I'm doing bio 1/2 this year and I feel the same way as you! It's just so interesting and enjoyable!

*crashes in* (not doing VCE :P)

My favourite subject is Biology :D I think I find it intriguing because it's all about life and what goes on within, whether it be in plants, organisms, or humans :3
Life is weird and crazy as heck but what can you do?

Revs was, without a doubt, my favourite VCE subject by a long way.

Always loved history, but it was even more interesting to learn about aspects of history that aren't traditionally covered in general history classes. Plus, it was cool to learn about the perspectives of history - I learnt to question stuff, whereas in history in year 7-10 we were just taught stuff as fact. I felt like I was learning something for a purpose - learning more about the world - rather than just solely to pass an exam (sure, the exam is a big aspect, but knowing about history is a very handy thing to have outside of school).
I also found I was just really suited to the style of the subject - learning a lot of content, then applying it. I always felt like I knew exactly what to say and do for each question I did.

I think also I loved it so much because I had an awesome teacher, who encouraged curiosity, challenged me, and really just engaged me in something completely for once. :)

I'm doing bio and I completely agree! Everything you learn is so applicable to everyday life!

And the stuff you learn isn't just learnt for the sake of it, it really benefits you in the future to understand our bodies and what's good for us, what's not and how things work in general!

Thanks again  :)

Thankyou!
I'm not continuing with any history subjects but I do agree with you! I feel teachers in early years put so many kids off by just spitting facts and dates and not discussing or making it interesting and engaging. But I'm happy you found a subject that you enjoy and subsequentially will perform better in!

Thanks again  :)
