Do we have any idea as to how the question regarding Melbourne vs Sydney will be marked and whether gradients + staying values will be enough for two marks?
Hard to predict. I don't think we have seen a question like that before.
My response was basically
1. I wrote the value in 2008. Showing sydney was already higher than Melbourne
2. Wrote the gradients of each and said since Sydney increases by x every year and Melbourne increases by y, and x>y, Sydney will always be higher than Melbourne.

Its a peculiar question. Havent come across it b4. But i do think mentioning the difference in the gradient and quoting it should be enough. Theres not much more to say anyways.

Exam 1: 40/40
Exam 2: 60/60

Thank you in advance :)

do you guys think for the gradient comparison question it was necessary to state staring value at 2008?

50 if you are rank 1 but could be lower if your sac ranking is lower (+ depending on how your cohort goes)

Right! I forgot about transformations. There also wasn't anything to do with z scores and the 68-95-99.7 rule.
I swear they've been in pretty much every exam past few years. Very peculiar that VCAA changed the format completely. Even the typical first 'here's a dot plot, find median and Q3' type questions were no where to be found. Big shift. Wonder if this is a trend that will continue for next few years!

Could be, I honestly don’t know what type of format they went with this year given that the questions seemed to be based on a particular area rather than cover the various skills for each topic. Was it just me or was it also quite repetitive? Like constantly asking the same type of question but extended

What did everyone got for the last geometry question?

im pretty sure you suppose to select the logical option of the 2 degrees (ambiguous case of sine) and then added with the given degree then 180 degree thingy to find the top left corner degree.

Then use cosine rule to find the length between Q and P

Which was 13 m/cm (can't remember units)

All you need to talk about is how Sydney had a higher slope than Melbourne (do include evidence), because y intercept does not matter, as long as the one with the higher end of slope, it will always eventually beat the one with lower slope.
