should I do bio?

hi! I'm currently in yr 10 and im doing 1/2 physics this year. I want to do biology because I am interested in working in the medical field in the future.

I'm not sure whether I should jump straight into 3/4 bio next year or whether I should do 1/2 bio in yr 11 and do the 3/4 in yr 12 (apparently bio is hard to do in yr 12? can someone confirm that for me pls).

my plan is do to 3/4 physics next year, depending on how I do in my next test because for my first test I got 100% and I recently did my second test and im pretty sure I failed...

depending on what I hear about bio and physics, ill figure out if I am doing both or just one bc I also don't really mind jumping into 3/4 accounting next year without the 1/2.

thanks for reading!

Plenty of people jump straight into 3&4 bio without doing 1&2. Not sure what you mean by it would be hard to do in year 12? I don't think it makes a difference what year you do it in.

Bio's great (I did it last year in year 10) and I think you should go for it if you are interested.

Because apparently you need the content from 1/2 to do the 3/4 and apparently doing the 3/4 in year 12 can be stressful? is this true?

You don't really need the content from 1/2 in 3/4.
Like it does help minimally but doesn't make a huge difference.

I'm doing bio 3/4 in year 12 right now alongside chem, methods, further and English. I wouldn't say it's stressful or anything you just have to have decent time management. Although I would say if you are capable of doing bio 3/4 in year 11, that would be a better option as there is a fair bit of content.

If you plan on doing 3/4 bio next year without 1/2, to catch up just try and get your hands on a textbook and start reading on the structure and role of organelles, how the plasma membrane works and the movement of hydrophilic and hydrophobic substances (First couple study design dot points essentially). These are the absolute basics of bio and there are literally thousands of videos on youtube for these topics so you basically won't be at any disadvantage at all compared to others in your 3/4 bio cohort as you'll be all up to date.

Hope that helps.

In biology year 11 you learn a ton of stuff that are not needed anymore such as pedigrees ect. However, you also learn very important fundamentals like cell organelles, proteins ect. So year 11 is not really needed but its also very good as you learn how to answer questions in biology and improve expression-very important to do well. So the choice is yours really.

Hi! I'm in Year 11 studying 1/2 Biology, however my school teaches us 3/4 content as well (so basically 3/4 content two years in a row.) With the help of materials such as Edrolo, your textbooks, Khan Academy etc to catch up on some basics covered in 1/2, I think you could totally do 3/4 Biology next year. The 'hardness' of it all is really subjective– for me, the first few concepts aren't that difficult to understand. By the time you reach more complex topics or things that you'd struggle with, you'll have the experience to be able to ask questions and find your best way of learning. I think doing 3/4 Bio next year would be a great opportunity for you. If you're planning to also study 3/4 Physics next year, I'm a tiny bit worried it'd be a bit much for your workload, but of course this depends on you and your interests and dedication. I don't study Physics so I won't be able to help you much with that.
The teachers and coordinators at your school also have invaluable advice regarding your subject decisions, maybe reach out to one of the Bio teachers and ask them about the workload and the subject.
Again, it's completely up to you, but I hope my advice helped a little bit (:

You don't need the 1/2 unit for biology to do well in units 3/4. Generally, units 1/2 only help out with general biology concepts but doesn't cover the same topics as 3/4.

I do agree that it is ideal that someone does biology in year 11 rather than year 12 since it definitely is a subject you do need to put a heap of time into if you want to score very well.

I'm not in year 12 yet so I guess I can't really comment on this but I feel like if you want to do well in ANY subject it's going to be stressful regardless of what year you do it in.

1/2 really isn't necessary to do well in 3/4. I got 49 without 1/2.

I personally think that you should do bio 3/4 in year 11 to reduce some of the stress in year 12

Im doing bio 3/4 right now as a yr11 and its pretty easy time and content wise. The amount of content is quite subjective as some people can intake information in 30 mins where as it takes others 1hr. But regardless of the subject doing 1 or 2 subjects in yr 11 will definitely free up yr 12.

Ha I just reread your first post again and I think most of us have kind of misunderstood your question lol?? Are you trying to decide between doing 3/4 physics AND bio next year? Or deciding between 3/4 bio or accounting in year 11? I don't really know what you're asking for.
