My school does structures and sound but I'll probably read over Einstein's Special Relativity during Summer break for fun. Interesting stuff.

During orientation, they gave us a bunch of reasons grounded in statistics as to why structures/sound were the best choices, didn't really care enough to remember them though. Something about relevance to the core topics and state-wide performances.

My teacher just said he wants to help us score the best which just means doing the easiest detailed studies. :)

But hmm..why do they have a variety of detailed studies if certain ones are more beneficial?

It was more reasons like, "materials and structures is heavily related to motion and statistics show that students doing m&s do better on exams (%)..." etc etc.

Well, I would say for all subjects you should at least read through the stuff so you don't get any nasty surprises later in the year (at which point there may be more accumulated stress). You could get ahead of the exercises a bit but there's no real need to go overboard.

Well, looking at this year's terrible graded distributions, if you want an excellent mark, both are equally as important.  :)
