So is the B.Eng clearly in ~95?

Just called and apparently it's 96 :O

Before offers I was thinking "damn should have stressed less, I only need 85"

Now I'm just stoked :)

Hahaha, I'm the 94.25 from WP and during the year was thinking "dw about school, I can get 85 with minimal effort" and "I don't need to fill out SEAS because i'll get well over 85 regardless (under repped school)". At first viewing of the paper i assumed it a mistake, looked on the VTAC website at the relatively low fringe (84.7) and proceeded not to worry and thought that i could call up today and get it all sorted. (I was eligible for all of middle-band). Today when i called up UoM the operator told me there was no hope of getting in 2nd and nobody that i could talk to in order to have my SEAS considered or to plead my case (otherwise helpful, made good recommendations etc.). I don't think a little thing like paperwork should stand between me and a university place.  I'm just angry @ the international students who get in on 85 (guaranteed).

Is there someone with more of a say in the Melbourne decision making process that i can contact and try to sway?

Now to the realistic side of things I'm left with a difficult choice, I can:
-Accept my offer to Swinburne Civil Engineering (do not want) and hope for a second round Melbourne offer (unlikely)
-Make an irregular offer application for Monash Engineering (Perhaps engineering/science? -does anybody know more about?)
-Make an irregular offer application to RMIT Civil (Far easier to get to than monash, saves maybe 30minutes travel a day, they have a good engineering reputation, Negative:non general first year - no idea if civil is the discipline that i am after)
-Adopt the Melbourne model and make an irregular offer application to Melbourne Science and later proceed to get a masters in engineering (Less engineering overall, but more rounded knowledge base)

The main problem lies within that if an irregular offer gets accepted i forfeit my right to any further offers (2nd round) and that i am also only allowed to submit one.

Advice?

Edit: Also looked in the vtac guide and last year second round melbourne engineering had a higher clearly in than first round? (How can this be?)

First off, my condolences to you as UoM have been dogs with the clearly-in ENTER.

Dude, if you wanted to do engineering then Monash should have been like second (or first) on your list. I don't know eng at UoM past first year, but I can tell you that first year blows. What you should have done if you wanted to do eng at UoM is put B.Eng first and B.Sc second, since first year for either degree is the same and then you could have transfered to B.Eng in second year. Trust me the faculty is cool with people going from B.Sc to B.Eng to leave the Melbourne model or people from B.Eng transfering to B.Sc to get into the model.

Anyway you still got a great ENTER (actually the ENTER I was aiming for).

I wouldn't decline your offer (you are still doing civil engineering), but perhaps trying for that irregular offer to monash (aswell) would be a good idea.

Melbourne is overly theoretical, no work experience and apparently first year is just pure boredom
