No i think the LisaChem ones are harder.

So Lisachem 2010 is even harder than the NEAP 2010 paper? I haven't done either yet, should get around to it this week.

I did both and I say NEAP 2010 is harder. I lost 10 marks on NEAP 2010 compared to 5 marks for Lisachem 2010. Lisachem 2010 is heavy on explanations though, and there's a lot of weird stuff in there.

Question 3. d. ii. Pretty crap question, they should have asked for the minimum dilution factor IMO, unless I'm missing something.

Neap went insane after seeing last year's VCAA paper I reckon.

Yeah. They have a massive superiority complex I think. They just couldn't stand VCAA having bigger appendages than they.

Do you get consequential marking on this?

I used 10.00 mL instead of 17.91 mL like an idiot.  That question ended up costing me 9 marks.  Could I get 8 of those marks back due to consequential marking?  All my answers were reasonable.  e.g. Fe % around 50, and dilution factor of 10...

Overall, that exam destroyed me!  Without consequentials, I only got 76% :(.  But with consequential marking, then I get like 86%, which is okay I guess.

Umm, Question 5a, would that not show 5 peaks for what they gave in the solutions?

Aww shiiit, I put it out of 90 marks instead of 75...

That would mean without consequestial marking 72%, and with 83%.  FML!

It was bloody weird as. I didn't like that fatty acid question. That was a dog act. And NEAP know it. And love it.

Pfft, that indicator question was a DOG act. :P
...as was that stupid question where you had draw your own molecule that matched the 4 peaks on the proton NMR.

wow stonecold..your experience of NEAP 2010 is almost identical to mine.

I also thought the total marks was out of 90, and I also disagree with solution to 5a lol

xD my bad, I looked at the total time and thought that was the total mark.

Btw. One of the questions asks for the structural formula of a diprotic acid with molecular formula C4H6O5 with 4 peaks on proton NMR.

The solution gives COOH.CH2.CHOH.COOH. But this molecule will produce 5 peaks on the NMR spectrum.

I got COOH.CH.(CH2OH).COOH

         CH2OH
            |
COOH - CH - COOH

Exactly the same molecule I drew!
