My biggest mistake was letting my school be the only source of knowledge on what VCE subjects to do and how to do them. By this I simply mean my school didn't provide the resources to tell students that subjects could be done by distance education and that in year 12 you could do university subjects. I'm surprised they never told us about it considering the school directly across the road from us (literally right across the road) taught university subjects there
dude you got 99.15, clearly you didnt make any mistakes lol

Oh that wasn't based on how it would've affected my ENTER. If I did do uni maths and physics, my score would've gone up by most 0.2.

I cared more about doing subjects that I liked/had an interest in. Doing uni maths would've been awesome for me because I wouldn't have to endure the plain-ness that 1st year uni maths is at Monash.
Religion and Society (38), IT - Software Development (45) English (35), Chemistry (49), Methods CAS (48), Specialist Maths (50)
ENTER: 99.15

2010 - Bachelor of Science(Maths)/Engineering(Chemical) - Monash Clayton

probably already said this like a hundred times.

doing english.  if you hate english, then don't be an idiot and do two of them like i did.

Why don't you wing one? :P That's what I plan to do if I epic-ly fail one of my Englishes in Year 12. But I'll probably drop one of them (depending on the teacher, my interest etc.) else the workload is too much.

I am.  I have given up on English.  I am desperately trying to make EngLang notes so I can right some decent essays. :D

Taken a broader outlook with my subjects, ie: for maths, reading some good "pop science" books relating to mathematics might have enabled me to appreciate the maths I was studying in context; the "point" of it, if you will. Also, reading comment/opinion/news/interviews in newspapers and magazines -which I only started doing after vce -would have been of great benefit for Revs and Eng Lang and even Psych; reading a commentator's in-depth accusation of 'cognitive dissonance' would have reinforced to me that the concpet was interesting and worth studying.

Also, taking on a 'study coach' to keep me focused and efficient would have been invaluable.
This guy would have fitted the bill nicely

I am.  I have given up on English. I am desperately trying to make EngLang notes so I can right write some decent essays. :D

Oh, good luck :P
You might even fluke English and come out with some decent scores.

But anyway, I think there is this (language analysis) section in the English and EngLang exam which overlaps. I'm not too sure since I'm not yet a VCE student - correct me if I'm wrong?

What a fail.  "Right" lol.

Umm, language analysis in English which incorporates metalanguage overlaps with EngLang.  You need to learn all the subsystems, grammar and metalanguage for EngLang, so this will help out with you Language Analysis in English.

But English does not help you improve in EngLang at all I believe.  The essays your write in English and EngLang are very different.

EngLang essays are kind of similar to expository essays in context for English, but they need to be more structured and incorporate the right terminology to make them somewhat sophisticated.

Which of English/Literature is generally better to do with English Language if you are considering doing two englishes?

Entirely up to you. There is no particularly strong synergy between Englishes. I would be inclined to pick Lit as it allows far more creative freedom (apart from the possibility of a true creative piece for Context in normal English).

In the end though you need to decide based on personal preference as well as the teachers which you would have

English and Literature compliment each other heaps. I'm not sure about language.

Yeah, apparently English Language and Lit are extremes of each other, I think I'm going to do 3 englishes next year (a semester of Lit and Eng each!) Smiley

I did all three this year. Was pretty good, I enjoy writing and English has always been a strong point of mine. Not doing Lit this year but.

my mistakes are

1) not trying enoughl until 1 month before exams
2)not keeping a methods tutor this yr
3) letting methods sac marks depress me all year( got to the exams and felt good after both despite deathly cones and pyramids and after analysing suggested solns )
4)not doing more research for englang - couldt have realy smashed it with a little more effort
5) letting a shit teacher make me hate chem and not study for it at all
6)not doing more vocab / writing for french
7) letting my nerves screw up my french oral
8) not doing spesh
9) not doing 2 3/4's in yr 11

however there's a few things that saved me this year
1) going on 2 month exchange to france
2) using VCE notes :) (the notes and the support really stopped me overeacting)
3) keeping my job
4) having honest conversations with teachers about results
5) working my butt off last yr so that my  laziness this yr didnt screw me up too bad
6) enter calc- for keeping me realistic

those are my thoughts... 8 days till D-DAY and i think i'm going to be fine regardless of the result i'm realising its just a number and if i dont get my highest expectations that doesnt mean i'm worthless  even thouugh my heart skips a beat when i think about it.

1) doing 3/4 bio in year 11 (second last year of study design)
2) not doing 2 3/4s in year 11 (i needed to believe in myself more)
3) not doing psych 3/4 in year 11 (last year of study design) now i'm doing it in year 12 with a new study design+mini essay in exams
4) not doing media or PE (i don't do any humanities subjects)
5) accidentally associating with manipulative people
6) complaining about your SAC marks to smarter people during the year. And then when study scores come out, they ended up getting a lower study score than you (when you know they are way smarter than you are and you know they should have got higher than you)

-Taking too long to look into distance ed so I missed out on international studies and national politics.
-Not taking bio in yr11
-thinking i could do better in methods than further (hence dropping further for a free)
-wasting the frees in the second half of the year by going home during them
