Do we need to memorise the compound angle formula's?

For methods, they don't test you on the compound angle formula's. It isn't part of the syllabus.

it says "recognition of equivalent forms using compound and double angle formulas for sine, cosine and tangent" in the study design. But doesn't state if its in exam 1 or not...

Yeah it's also in the Heinemann textbook. Will check the study design.

And it also says "compound angles for sine, cosine and tangent".
Are you people trying to sabotage us? It's clearly in the study design.

Shouldn't you be able to recognise them when you see them? No point in memorising, they should be second nature

Can someone explain

From what I understand it's using the distance formula to find the distance between a point on one triangle on the circular function to another point on another triangle i.e point (sin, cos) to point (-sin, cos) taking into account that both triangles have different angles i.e beta and theta
