yes that one above is horrible and smudges
Don't uniballs smudge? and run out of ink really quick

I hate those pens, smudging is the biggest pain in the ass.

Completely agree ,especially if you're a left hander, drives you nuts, and the side of your palm is permamentely tattooed with blue ink.

My english exam papers are chicken stratch, I get everything down, but I feel for the examiners eyes.

I've always been worried about my handwriting, my teacher complains that she can't read it, but it seems very readable for me :'(

I think she hates me :'(

as a lefty, i opt for something not gel. something like a kilometrico but with grip. bic velocity type thing. i also prefer clicky pens that have got the right amount of length to do pen tricks with.

my handwriting is putrid too, i feel for examiners, and its honestly one of my biggest worries, but after getting a decent score for revs last year i know that it cant be too bad :\

I absolutely hate using ink/gel pens they smudge too much.

I use this pen with a rubber grip stolen from cheapo BIC pacers put on the front. Remains as my favourite pen since year 12. It's definitely the most comfortable so far for me since it's not overly fat like the 4 pens (I hate writing with them), but not too thin like the kilometrico biros which also ends up hurting since your hand gets scrunched up around it. In terms of the hand cramping, I hold a pen terribly (failed my pen license when I was younger - just about the only test I've ever failed =/) so I get that pretty quickly. I find that a combination of the speed of writing, length of time you're writing for and the anxiety causing you to grip your pen harder than usual in an exam leads to this and there's not much you can do. Just tank it out was what I did =/ Stretching your hands makes it feel better but it comes back almost immediately after you start writing so it's just a waste of time IMO. You won't notice it as much under time pressure anyway. You'll be too busy writing.

EDIT: The grips were from these: BiC Velocity pacers.

omg i thought i was the only on who uses these pens (no grip though). love them.  they dont smudge and write smooth. :)
except only Officeworks sells them :/

Well... my ultimate pen is the OfficeMax 1.0 mm non slip grip blue ball point pen. You have probably seen them around, but they're actualy prety hard to buy. I managed to scab about a hundred of them off one of my mates (his dad works in an office somewhere where they use them and he got some for me :))

... I drool when I see them.

EDIT NOTE: wrote 0.7 instead of 1.0

Well I work at a Newsagency, and I'm a lefty, and there was basically no one around last Saturday due to the Grand Final, so I thought I may as well test every pen...

To my dismay, not one pen doesn't smudge for a lefty, even the "non-smudge" pens

I FEEL FOR FELLOW LEFTY'S....

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pilot Ballpoint BPS-GP pens yet. I always buy a set for exams and they're the smoothest pens I've ever tried.

They will blow your mind. Always get the 1.0 (Medium Point) one though. The other one writes too too thin .. unless you're into that sorta stuff.

The colour of those actual pens are fuddgin' disgusting, they look like watered down ink.
No offence, bro.
