Hi :)

i've got a question where i have to talk about globalisation and give an example which incorporates at least three steps of Kotter's change management theory.
Has anyone got any good, current examples?

Thanks for the example! :)

My definition of globalisation is:
'globalisation can be defined as the process of increasing interdependence between countries and involves the expansion of international trade and communication across coutnries, generally as a result of factors such as the removal of trade restrictions within countries, collapse of Communism, and assisted by advancements in technology and freer movement of capital around the world'

Globalisation is a situation where countries and organisations across the world are more closely connected than ever due to the advancements in technology and communication between countries. E.g. Large scale organisations such as Nokia, IBM, ANZ Bank have been better able to run their organisations due to the continuous improvements in communicational technology, thus allowing them to conduct international meetings, increase productivity and efficiency within the workplace by allowing work to be submitted at a high quality as quick as possible and being able to communicate significant information within a matter of seconds

That's all you need.
But then again, Globalisation is not our significant change issue, so it doesn't need to be huge. you just need to know a couple of key terms and then improvise.

In relation to communism, I'm not sure that is relevant to Business Management in general, maybe History, but unless it affects the business activity of an organisation in your example, I wouldn't include it.

Mmm that's just what my teacher gave me in my notes. I don't intend to include that in my definition though :)

That is an excellent description of Globalisation!!

Whatever you did predominately during your Change Management SAC is your change issue i.e. we did mergers and acquisitions others do ESM or Globalisation etc.

You only need to know one issue as the question on the exam will be broad such as
"Select a change management issue and apply it to an organisation using at least 3 steps of Kotter's 8 step change theory" (8 marks)

marking scheme:
3 marks for identifying an issue and describing it with some historic perspective
2 marks for identifying an organisation and how it is affected by the issue
3 marks for applying at least 3 steps of Kotter's theory
