What are the odds?

What is the chance that context will have pictures instead of prompts?

The imaginative landscape lecturer said don't be surprised if it comes up..

So now I don't know whether to do more prompt context pieces or ones based on a picture..

What are others doing?

I reckon the exam setters could be this sneaky...Or they'd put two articles in section C. If they do both, I'll be in a fit of rage.

Because they haven't done it..And it's been three years of the study design now.. So they could start experimenting? I guess...

haha. Who knows. In the study design it says that context provides "prompt and/or stimulus material"...i.e. possibly a picture. That's why I'm freaking out too. I knew about this like 2 months ago but I thought it was "rubbish"..

Sorry to add the pressure. I just need somebody's advice! Don't want to go into the exam and be stumped. Also if it was a picture, knowing beforehand would be a massive advantage too.

There is really no point in speculating guys... just make sure you study hard! You won't be nervous, going into the exam, if you know you have studied hard and studied for everything the study design says! :D

Obviously the picture won't hinder you in any way, it's just a stimulus for more ideas (and btw, it will ALWAYS be accompanied by a prompt)

For example, if they presented this picture: http://static-p3.fotolia.com/jpg/00/11/73/76/400_F_11737685_vm4loUiDCyfMBeGN8bQ7UAbQ7JLt8Iqu.jpg
you could comment on the fact that their faces are silhouetted and how this highlights the prevalent culture of conformity,
Their hands are in the air - something about freedom of ideas/expression - or the inherent need for acceptance
4 scenes - the progression of society or human development. - and all this just off the top of my head.

I don't think VCAA will try screw us over (although it would be interesting). If anything, the accompanying photo should enhance your piece of writing!

hmm thanks for that! I wonder if it would be like language analysis where they really push you to include the visual.

Like the texts that we study for Creating and Presenting, the visual imagery (if there is any) should be used as a vehicle for ideas - you can make an implicit reference, or an explicit one. With context pieces there is far more leniency.

Just a general reminder: If you don't include the visual or have any connection to the prompt, then it's probably a sign that you're spewing out a memorized essay. They will definitely take off marks for that!

Scroll down to your context and there's two images for each. Hope that helps somebody :D
