To get 40+ ?

What sort of marks out of 20 for each essay on the exam would you be needing to get a study score of 40 and over?

Because this exam is starting  to make me really nervous! I've been able to come to terms with one text really well, and can produce relatively high scoring pieces. However the second text is an epic fail.

From what i can deduce 18-20 is above 40
16-17 is above 35
14-15 above 30
13 is 30 below

Scary. If that's true.

Just out of curiosity, what are your texts? I plan to write on Emma and Gwen Harwood poetry.
English: 46 / Literature: 42 / Legal: 40 / Methods: 37 / Spec: 33 / Chem: 31 (I regret doing this subject!)

I'm writing on the play 'Hotel Sorrento' by Hannie Rayson. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. :) The second is the poetry of Philip Larkin. While interesting to study, I'm finding it difficult to write about.

According to the examiners reports it's rare that either of these texts are written on well. Sigh.

I reckon two 17s would be about 42.

Have you guys checked out the statistics for 2009 Lit?

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/statistics/2009/section3/vce_literature_ga09.pdf

For the 2009 exam, a median of B got you around SS of 30... i think.  Here's my dilemma: Why is the max score range out of 80? I thought that two texts at max of 20 = max 40?

Your exam paper is marked by two accessors. So two essays = a mark out of forty. Two accessors each giving a score out of 40 = a mark out of 80.

and a 16 and a 17 would be high 30's, maybe 40 if your sacs were truly amazing.

Just saying i'm doing

Antigone and Atonement and if i got a 15/14 in both i'd be over the moon

did a practice exam which was externally assessed by a marker and I thought I failed and magically got back 13/15 respectively which i was so happy about (this was end of last term)

don't feel i've been able to improve much past there as yet though but i'd pretty much be happy with that as well

Yea I looked at the assesors' report and I'm fairly sure a 17 would get u an A+, but to get over 40 you might need to be rank 5 or over in a fairly decent sized class.
