PREREQUISITES

If you get a little bit below the required score for a prerequisite  does that mean you're automatically disqualified from having a chance at getting in?

For instance, biomed needs 25 in methods. These exams were shockers. I'm nervous I didn't get that  :( :( I have no idea how bad I actually did cos the exams were quite tricky, so who knows whether the low cut offs will save me. Let's say I get a 24 or 23 or 22 raw.. What would happen ? :S I saw that if you don't get a 25 in methods you need to do an "introduction to mathematics" instead in biomed?? So this is making me think maybe you can get in but you need to do an extra subject..? So if I got the clearly-in atar but one of the prereq scores was a bit lower could I still get in?

Help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

They first look at applicants who have met the prerequisites and then order them by ATAR to determine the clearly in and middle band.

In courses with less demand they may be a little more lenient (but this is not common) there is plenty of scrutiny of prerequisites and selection processes and fair entry into courses.

Haha well I dunno realistically where my methods score stands, that's why it's scary.. I wanted some reassurance, although I did kinda know prerequisites are looked upon quite strictly.

Methods has only just become a prereq for the course, it used to be just chemistry. I suspect that's a relic from back then.
If you don't meet the prereq then I'm not sure about what would happen, I doubt you'd be offered a place (that said, a hard exam is hard for the whole state so relax)

Generally, this is what happens:

If you do not meet the required minimum study score for a pre-requisite subject or do not complete the pre-requisite subject(s), there is no way you will be offered a place in the course.

However, with regards to leniency as mentioned before, only selection officers have the power to waiver them (and generally that's not done to year 12 students).

on the topic of prereqs,
the scores you have to meet for prereqs are raw scores, right?
one of my friends thinks he could get into his course with a minimum SS of 25 in methods if he gets raw 19 and it goes up to 25. i didn't think that was right..

ALL prereqs are based on raw scores. It's unfair to base it on scaled scores because scaling changes every year.

By the sounds of it a lot of people went badly on the Methods exams. Hence if you did slightly better than those people, then you should get at least 25

I've got a question about Prereqs..

If there wasn't a lot of room in a course, and they had the choice of a few student's who had all met the Prerequisite score, would the Uni just pick the student with the higher score?

If you're talking about the clearly in ATAR not prerequisites..?
it increases, that's why it's not the same every year.
Ie if arts at melb suddenly had heaps more applicants all with ATARs above say 92, the clearly in would increase.
