@Cianyx, I'll reserve judgement until someone explains the new system

At the end of the day, if all it did is reset the numbers then that's still a good thing

I think the main one is that friends can't karma each other and have it contribute to the count.

I can't seem to +/- respect in water cooler.

I just tried and it did work. Maybe they've made another update in the last couple of hours?

Yeah, probably. I saw David reading this thread shortly after I posted.

actually, i just looked around.

what ive noticed is that by keeping a % of karma and transforming it into respect, now means those who abused the system, now have a high repect level, where those who use karma every now and then when its needed, and thus those who get karma every now and then, are on low levels of respect.

so now it makes those who abuse karma look very respectful, and those who dont abuse the system dont look respected.

I'd probably disagree with this actually. Members like Mao have the largest levels of respect, but definitely haven't abused the karma system since they've been long time members.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Well it's a good point, I don't know what the exchange was but a clean slate might have been the best way to switch to a new system

Sorry if this has been posted i CBF reading through 5 pages of posts... but don't you feel that the whole positive/negative thing will be detrimental to people's confidence in posting again if they have previously copped a few negatives?
Personally i dont really give a crap if people dont like what i have to say, but other people may feel offended and cut if fellow VNers were to basically say 'OH WHAT A NOOB/GOOSE THATS THE WORST COMMENT EVER-NEGATIVE FOR YOU' in the form on a negative vote...

May seem a little bitchy or whimpy on my behalf claiming that people would feel offended at some random dude voting you down, but people have cracked it in the past at me for simply saying words like 'gay'.

So yeaaaaa  ???

Wait but how can you see who 'liked' or 'disliked' what?
